I'm looking for a license frame holder specifically for a YOM (year of manufacture) plate, California. It would allow you to put an additional registration tag on it. YOM plates already have the year for the registration. I would need to put the month and annual year registration tags on the plates.

The frame looks as if it has a "mini" frame, only large enough for the registration tag that sits on top of the license frame.

I have a picture John Leader sent, but he's unsure where to find such a thing, wondering if anyone else knows. I'll try to add the picture John sent to this note but if I'm unable, I can send you one by email. My email is: dzlouie@yahoo.com.

Thanks,
David

First, upload the photo to your File in the Members section. Then:
1) Select "File" on the top menu bar
2) Select your folder.
3) When viewing the folder as a "File List", you can click the "link icon" to the right of a file.(It looks like chain-links.)
4) A new page will appear, with the detailed code to copy into your forum message.
Copy it and paste it into your "post." That creates the "thumbnail" photo, which when you click on it, leads you to the full-sized picture.
Sounds kinda complicated; it's not.

Best explanation re: YOM for California. The metal tabs come to you from the DMV when your YOM registration is accepted. Other than that source, these will be difficult to find because they are generally on collector cars and don't end at the salvage yard. They wouldn't be difficult to fabricate, however, if you are inclined.

Take your picture. Blow it up so that the detail is viewable. E-mail or call people like the above to see what it would cost to reproduce the part. Decide whether you want to pay that much. There may be a market for this type of part, and you might be able to lay off some of the set up expense by buying a few and reselling. Mike Crawford at Crawford Customs reproduces parts from scratch, and does a nice job. Otherwise, look around your city for a metal fabricator, and take the picture to him, and ask if he would make one or two for you.
My 'YOM' tabs arrived from the DMV over the weekend. They are very thin, lightweight metal. The fact that these have a bit of a 'channeling-type' of trim around three of the five sides, is beyond me.

They are a small square but instead of four-sided it has a bit of a triangle shaped bottom...Rick Antunnes would recognize it if I held it upside down as it resembles a dog-house...

There is one hole drilled in it. Man you could cut one out of light guage metal with tin snips, file down the edges and you're done.MM
