I am looking for information and documents for a Beck 550 Spyder. The car has been in storage for a long time, and all the papers are missing. The car was imported from California. Does anyone know if it’s possible to request the original registration documents? I need them to apply for a Dutch license plate.

That is a California SB100 sticker. I don't recall any paperwork when getting mine around that time. It allowed me to not have to routinely smog my car for yearly registration. All I had to do was fill out a form and be one of the first few hundred people to do so that year, and I got the exemption. There should be a smaller matching VIN sticker somewhere else on the car..."hidden".
I am not sure exactly what paperwork you are looking for, but you might want to contact the California Department of Motor Vehicles...that VIN gives them information they would need.

I must say, back in the early 90s, when I went through the process, it wasn't very thorough. They didn't check anything. They just took the forms, applied the stickers and left.
Odd coincidence...I moved from California to Amstelveen in 1993-1994.
A new VIN has been created for this car. However, when I enter the VIN in a lookup, it is not recognized. I need the title for this car, as I cannot obtain a Dutch license plate without being able to prove its origin.
Does the car have California plates?
Interesting that they registered it as a 94 Porsche Carrera with 1600cc motor.

There are no papers with the car. As far as I know, this car was imported from California more than 20 years ago.
No one had drivin it. The car was stored.
From what I can find, you maybe want to file a form INF-70 to find out who California DMV thinks is the legal owner.
In the past, there were papers with it. However, the seller says they have been lost.
I would file the INF-70 and see what it reveals. I am willing to do it for you as I am in So California. Or you can do it online...
Was it ever registered over there? Or has it been stored ever since it was imported?

Hi , I assume that it was imported into Holland and custom duties/ taxes paid ,
is the seller the one who imported it and paid the duties/taxes,
I am sure the customs office has a record of that import and maybe a copy of the title .
I can provide a letter stating when the body/chassis was manufactured, which most governments accept, but there is no original documentation on this build in our files.
Interesting...what does the "B" in the serial number denote?
The first 100 or so Gen 2 cars (Brazilian production) had the "B" added since they (dad and Chuck) decided to start over at #001B, but then then B dropped off so we have duplicate numbers around 100-240. Fortunately there were enough changes Gen 1 to Gen 2 that got is easy to distinguish between them, but still a pain to have to sort out which #200 Spyder you may have...

As for the lack of documentation, my father and Chuck did not keep build records, so our extensive build files start around car #900 when I started taking over and are complete through today's production (2650-something). When an early car comes here on consignment, or service, or sometimes even just pops up for sale online, I try and add as much info to the files as I can regarding it.
I have all my documents from a 1989 kit purchase through to today if any of it can be of any help 4Acre. The car was built and registered in California under SB100 back in the early 1990s.
I need some time for the negotiations. What is a reasonable price for a Beck Spyder with an original Porsche 356 1600cc engine in the USA? I'll keep you updated. Thank you very much for your input so far.
Price varies heavily with condition and options, but we're seeing $35k on the very low end and $80k on the very high end, but I'd say most cars in good condition with average amount of options are in the $50k range.

Hello everyone,
It took a while, but I finally managed to purchase the Beck Spyder. The car's paperwork is complete, including the registration (California), import documents, etc. Someone asked if the car is blue, and indeed, it is.
Does anyone have a copy of the original construction drawings @chines1 In the coming period, I will be working on getting the car in order and applying for a Dutch registration.
WOW - 20 years! You have a lot of work to do! New brakes (all the rubber bits are shot - lines and seals, gas tank (rusted - at least clean inside), fuel lines (replace rubber), rebuild cars, doesn't engine turn over? Hope there no Dutch mice. Might want to replace valve springs. New tires for sure.
Resuscitation after 20 years sitting. Oh boy. Lots of little things to consider. Sounds like it was built, shipped and stored and never really used -- true? the mechanicals may be OK, although old man rust can find his way into lots of small and important places. This will be a project. And we would all love to watch and learn as it goes fwd. I think Carey Hines can be useful. Send him a RT plane ticket and he might even drop in to help . . .
