Aloha,

Sorry, I do not have any info. on it for you, but I do find it an interesting creation.

I'm wondering exactly how this setup would work. Is each Magnaflow muffler restricted to one side of the engine? As in, you're not using a merged header, but a completely new header system that isolates the two halves of the engine, and then rejoins to exit via a stinger near the tail of the car. Hmmm. Would this be a benefit or detriment to the engine? Especially on the type 1 VW, I'm pretty sure for an exhaust system to create horsepower you need both heads exiting into the same header system. Otherwise the exhaust pulses are to irregular to create an effective scavenging environment in the pipes. Perhaps, the setup you're talking about has some sort of "H-pipe" connecting the two sides. I'm very interested.

aloha,
Joel
From what I"ve been told, "and I must state it's second hand info" the system is being produced or "tested" by Greg at Vintage. If I hear more, I'll post the information. My current glass pack on my Beck just doesn't do the job I want it to do, It's too noisy and it hangs too low. In addition, I don't think it helps performance.

Having 2 mufflers (1 for each bank of cylinders) is not unusual, a V8 engine with dual exhaust has 2 mufflers, one muffler for each bank of 4 cylinders. Each pair of cylinders, as they enter the muffler, act as their own collector. The merging of both sides into 1 stinger theoretically should also aid in the exit of the exhaust as one side pulls the other.

Well George, thank goodness you're not buying one.

Those of us that are Beck Spyder owners are stuck with only 2 different pre-made exhaust systems, the stock exhaust and the new system produced by Vintage for the Beck cars. We'll just have to make do with what we can get since nothing else will fit.

George,
If the exhaust system for the Beck is anything like what Vintage puts on their cars, this would be an "outstanding" purchase. Not only does this system let the engine breathe, but when ceramic coated, lets the engine exhaust run cooler and also gives the Spyder's engine compartment car show quality. I agree with your observation that the Dual QP is not a good performance system, and due to it's location on the car makes it an unflattering addition. Due to the differences in the Spyder and Speedster engine locations, comparing exhaust system needs is like comparing apples and oranges.
John, yes, apples to oranges, BUT - if you have too much output volume in your exhaust system (vis-a-vis two mufflers) it can negatively affect low end and mid-range performance via a reduction in back presure (some is good).

Who knows? Their new dual muffler system may be the cat's pajamas; all I was saying is sometimes a dual muffler system may not be a good idea and dyno figures don't lie.
Just got back from Vintage Spyder (9-20-03), Terry Baird and I arranged to meet at Vintage to have exhaust systems installed.

I arrived first so Greg and I installed his new exhaust system on my 2002 Beck 2165cc engine. It's not something that you can do without a lift and required some fabrication as each Beck seems to have the rear cross member welded with different measurements. It took about 2 hours to install but it was worth the work. Contrary to George Brown's beliefs, the exhaust system performs flawlessly. Power was noticeable, acceleration was crisp, noise was a little more throaty and wasn't as loud and while driving on the freeway, I could actually hear myself think.

We'll have to wait for Terry's comments but so far, I'm very happy.
