@Panhandle Bob I just got off the phone with Pat Downs, who designed the Magnaspark, and there is no other aftermarket part that fits. As Danny said, buy a new distributer to replace the old one. Buy the model when they come in, replace the bad module, and sell the old distributer. Or wait for the new part but they may not have any idea when it'll come in.

FWIW I have a Gift Card balance at CB Performance for $73.90 and I'm willing to sell it for $50.00. You could pay me via Venmo or PayPal and I'll give you the serial number for the gift certificate.

Rick-

His distributor is almost brand new. I put it on with Bob in March when I was enjoying his hospitality in the panhandle. The adapter module could definitely work, if the "adapter" part was just tossed, but the module is $50 and the adapter module is $75.

The larger issue to me is why the module failed. I've got one of these distributors on the 2234 I've got on the stand, as a temporary ignition until I can get the MicroSquirt wired up. Bob doesn't have very many miles at all on this setup. We installed it and the coil as a matched set, so the failure should have nothing to do with component compatibility.

The car won't start on either the dry-coil from the kit or the blue coil Bob has had forever. He's checked, and has power to the coil. By process of elimination, it's got to be the pickup.

The regrettable part about this to me is that I thought we'd finally arrived at a decent, tunable, reliable distributor for the T1. The ignition is BY FAR the weakest link in reliability with these engines. I'm not sure what to recommend for Bob going forward. He really needs two modules, as they have proven to be unreliable.

Comp-u-fire used to be pretty reliable, but they were purchased by Pertonix who's modules are horrible.

I'm frankly pretty sick of carrying spares for parts that shouldn't wear out.

WOW! You went right to the source, thanks, buddy!

I saw that last night and when I drop one in my cart it says it's not available, out of stock. Good catch though! Thanks for the research.

Stan

Thanks for the texted offer. I may take you up on it! You always have my back, man.

I'm good with the 009. I have 2 good 009's on my shelf. Thank you my friend.

PLAN: I'm going to call them direct and see if they have any idea when they will have them back in stock. If it's a short term deal, I'll just wait. If not I'll go to a plan B which will include a spare module on the shelf.

Again, thank you all! I'll let you know how this goes so the next guy has a roadmap.

Well, spoke to CB Performance. The modules are somewhere between having been shipped and clearing customs. Could be 30 days.

They suggested I buy another Magna Spark II and take out the module....yeah, great idea.

I will buy two replacement modules when they become available, to be safe. I do notice a significant positive difference in the way the car runs and I like what the Magna Spark gives me when it works.

OK, that's that.

I'll take mine out of the 2234 Magnaspark and mail it to you. The engine is just on a stand anyhow. When you get your replacements, just mail me one back.

So I called CB Performance to check on the availability of the module. The customer service lady and I chatted for awhile and she looked up my purchase. I told her that the kit sat on the shelf for several months before Stan installed it on my car during his visit. Then it went out in less than 300 miles of driving.

The warranty is 90 days from when you buy it. Makes sense.

She told me she would let me know when they came back in stock via e-mail. They still show out of stock today.

However, without prompting or any griping on my part, a new module in original packing magically showed up in the mail from them at no charge.

How 'bout dat!

They had a good deal of my business before, but now they will have all I can give them.

Outstanding service and backing up their products.

Thanks to CB Performance!!!

I exchanged emails with Marieanne at CB Performance yesterday on these modules.  I also mentioned Bob's story of receiving his new module and told her I really admired their customer support.  She was pleased.

She expects a new batch to arrive in the next two weeks and suggested, if anyone wants one to carry as a spare, to go to the following CB page and click on "Email me when back in stock" under the "Wishlist" button and they'll ping you when they're in.

You might also consider ordering a spare distributor cap and rotor when you order your module, as those look a little funky, too.

@Panhandle Bob

I was just looking at how to swap my module last week.  The centrifugal pawls on the disti shaft tend to be in the way of the module mounting screws so you'll need a 30mm box wrench on the crankshaft pulley nut to maneuver them around to be out of the way of your screwdriver.

Even with that, it's still pretty close under there so I found that a 90º phillips screwdriver just gets in there underneath the pawls to loosen the mounting screws.  One like these:

They're often included with screwdriver sets or they often have them at Home Depot/Lowes/ACE etc.    Happy Puttering!
