I need some information/advise.

I recall a thread where a member had a nightmarish experience with a crate engine (engines?) from a careless, perhaps incompetant, perhaps a shyster of a builder who relied on extensive Samba advertising. Member posts overwhelmingly confirmed a common knowledge that this builder was untrustworthy with a 'bad news' reputation...so, I'm asking for candid comments on MOtors FOr COmpetition.

I'm interested in a 1915cc build, originally from MOFOCO, with an impressive build list...but I also recall a recent warning, from a member that upon teardown inspection his engine didn't have the internal components that he'd paid for!!

I'd appreciate any and all feedback, be they praise or spirited condemnation...Bare knuckle style. I realize that there's a natural reluctance to stomp on toes, prefering rather to  criticise with veiled verbage, so please be candid by communicating through my email <carlberrystudio@yahoo.com>...all comments will be much appreciated, and of course will remain confidential....Thanks

BTW, what the devil does "Toggle WYSIWYG" mean??

I've been a Samba member for 4 years, where Roy from Mofoco is on frequently offering advice and help, sometimes going out of his way and at his own expense. I don't know the whole story, but there were problems before and Roy seems to be working hard to change the company's rep since he's taken over. They have a line of completely made in America (cast locally and machined in house) heads that look pretty good and people should consider if they're building a motor (I'm a believer in the keeping guys working locally instead of sending your money overseas thing, even if "locally" is across the continent and a different country). I'm of the understanding that every motor he builds is to customer's specs, so if I was buying a used Mofoco (or from any where) motor seeing the build sheet or invoice and/or at least a teardown would be necessary.  I admit that I've had no dealings with the company (or Roy), and what I'm telling you is only what I've read and noted on the Samba. I don't see him as one who would sell parts and then not include them in the build, but as I've said, I've never met the guy and never dealt with the company.

If the motor runs well, has good compression and endplay, and if a teardown confirms the parts that are supposed to be in it and if it looks good inside as well....

Btw Carl- What's supposed to be in it?

PS- Lane is correct; any thing from GEX is cause to run the other way as fast as you can...

I want to thank the SOCers who chimed in with their MOFOCO comments...most of which were circumspect heresay... None of it negative. Those with direct experience characterize Roy at MOFOCO as helpful, accommodating and conscientious.

He markets a line of proprietary (USAmade) heads in three stages of tweaking from zippy to hair raising...Extra fins for better cooling. Attractive price tags.
