Lowering the rear of your speedster is a 4 hour job. Bascially, you will be removing the spring plates, marking and reindexing the rear torsion bars. One outside spline will lower it 1.5 inches. One inside spline will lower it about 1/3 to 1/2 inch. Keep in mind that all the Cal-Look guys like their cars raised a little in the rear for a reason? Clearance. There are many good web site instructions on lowering the rear of the car. One is at VW Trends magazines' tech articles. Basically you will jack up the rear of the car on jackstands. Remove the rear wheels. Use the floor jack, chained to the shock tower, to gently raise the spring plate and then slide it over a small retaining lug. Then you will remove the three bolts on the torsion bar cover. Make a reference mark. Reindex the torsion bar and reinstall. This is a brief overview of a simple, but major half day's work. Be careful, those springplates are loaded.
Once again, IM to the rescue. IMs with IRS have a simple bolt/locknut rear height adjustment. Jack up, note height as a reference point, loosen locknut, adjust bolt, tighten locknut, lower car, roll back and forth, and check ride height on that side. Simple, fast - waxa-on, waxa-off. The locknut is a bit hard to reach but a ratchet with a crows-foot socket on an extension simplifies that.
