i already have a 3rd LED brake light under my grill. i was going for a stealth install/look, but the downside is it's not that bright - especially with the luggage rack on.

so i picked up one of these 'cause i always thought they were cool (and more appropriate than those VW 'safety' stars):

fresh off the convertible scissor top fabrication ( http://www.mangosmoothie.ca/convertible-frame ) - i had the welder out, so i fabbed up the subtlest bracket i could - painted it black and installed it tonight.

it's freaking BRIGHT! i also angled it up just a shade to be as in your face as i could without looking like it.

i know it's not period correct (this is a '29 ford brake light for those who want to know), but it has a glass lens and the chrome is good - so it looks pretty vintage.

anyway - here it is...

zip-tied the wires so you can't see them (unless you REALLY look):

attached it to the bumper bracket (after tack weld / breaking / standing back, removing / breaking / tack weld / standing back to find the perfect spot):

then i ran the wires through the rubber bumper bracket seal and soldered them into the harness and zip-tied it all clean so it doesn't screw up my wiring harness (http://www.mangosmoothie.ca/wiring)

'dats all for tonight (and for this thread actually)
david - do you mean one of these brake lights:

i like mine because it it unique. lots of old dubberz have them.

why did i do it? because i have bee hives and a pinner LED 3rd brake light. believe it or not safety was a primary driver for this.

i'm going to leave it on for a month or so to see what i think. it's an easy removal.

sorry vinny - no skirts mudflaps or curb feelers. i am thinking dingballs though:
maybe not pink though... but maybe... not sure yet.
Mango's idea is period correct (sort of). here's what some folks in Europe used to use for foggy conditions: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=1200216

I'm still considering doing something like this on top of the LED bulbs, license plate with strip of LEDs, and extra light in engine lid vent that I already have. Yeah, the folks here seem oblivious sometimes.
