Hi all,

After a very cold round trip to Bremen in March to have my hydraulic clutch, oil cooler, etc, added AND a very wet start of Carlisle, I decided to take the Jack Crosby route of adding additional material and piping to my side curtains to make them fit my top better.

The result was a great success. I took it out on the highway in the rain yesterday and it is much tighter and the side curtains don't pull out at the top at highway speeds.

I had difficulty finding someone to do the work. I started with the local upholstery shop, but wound up at my shoe repair place. They were delighted to do it.

I started by duct taping a file folder template to the back side of the side curtains. I took that in and they added the material with a little extra. I took it back and fitted and trimmed the material and then took it back for the piping.

I found that there was no value to adding material to the leading edge. It didn't improve sealing and only made it harder to close the doors.

The doors are a little harder to close and you have to tuck in the top of the side curtains to the top once inside, but it's well worth the hassle for the improved sealing. Since I mainly use this car with the top down in warm weather. I really only need these for when I get caught out in bad weather, am making a long highway drive in less than optimal weather, or in the spring and fall when I just can't wait to drive it any more :-)

Anyway, I have enough material left over for at least one more set of side curtains. I'm willing to give this to someone on two conditions:

1) You pay for shipping
2) You agree to pass on what's left to the next guy under the same agreement

Tom--that's a nice and generous offer. And congrats on doing the "fix"--glad it helped your car. Your front pieces must have been
long enough singe no additional material was needed there. With mine, a fair amount had to be added so each person should see for themselves. You know you need to add at the front if your front part of the window fabric pulls out of the car at highway speeds. That's what mine did and now that's totally solved. I didn't need to add so much as to make it at all difficult to open the door with the windows in.

We can thank Dusty Johnson, who I believe was the first to figure this out. He showed me his redone windows at Morro Bay last year.

It's far from an IM roll-up, but it is authentic and makes a world of difference.

One of the car mfg was quoted as saying that they have only one size window made for all their cars. Since all the car's dimensions are different it stands to reason that some windows won't fit very well. On mine, you could almost stick your fist from the outside to the inside at the area just behind the back of the window at the bottom.
At the front it was 'way off too. This is a quick, easy fix.
