Since you're in Pennsylvania you may want to contact Carey @chines1 Beck: Special Edition http://www.beckspeedster.com/ and see what he can do for you. He is one of our top builders but the only thing I'm unsure about is whether his body would fit a VW pan. Carey builds his cars with a custom tubular chassis and custom pan. Or you could buy an unfinished roller sans paint and all the trimmings and build away.

Another option is to contact Greg @VSpyder at Vintage Motorcars https://www.vintagemotorcarsinc.com/ . He is another top builder and he is located in California. Greg builds pan based Speedsters and could hook you up as well.

Some still make what they call rollers - where you add suspension and interior.  Expect to still pay around $20k.  There are a couple of companies that sell just the bodies on TheSAMBA - but be sure to add in all the additional parts required.  A used/abused/unfinished CMC/FF kit car is probably the cheapest entry - since you have the build expertise.

Glad to see you’re keeping your face out of the sun. 

I'm 58 now but this is what I looked like at 24 years old  and yes steroids were involved and some hair dye I believe. Wow, the 80's were a weird time, I can't believe I went on stage wearing that thing LOL.. My wife now calls me the body builder gone bad. You will have to come to Carlisle to see what I look like now. 

I was thinking of something more like this, but not sure if the car comes with Her.

my cousin was mr. East coast of Canada his full Time hobby as well

I was "Mr. South Grafton" but that was mostly for drinking at the Polish Hall.....

 But not to take away from your effort, as I KNOW that it takes one helluva lotta work to get to that level.  I never got there, for sure.
