JBL has announced the release of a new bluetooth amplifier. http://www.jbl.com/car-amplifiers/GTR-7535_.html

The new amp connects directly to your bluetooth music device so you no longer need an in-dash or under-dash unit to receive the signal, turn on the amplifier, etc.

With the new amplifier installed and wired up you connect your phone and stream music. Now without an in-dash head unit what do you do with your speakers? Probably the best thing to do is take the vinyl/leather off your door cards, use your existing door card material or as I would suggest, use a heavier door card material and cut out a hole for the speaker. If cutting a hole in the material bothers you make a circle where the speaker will be mounted and drill as many holes with a drill as it takes to allow good sound to pass through. Mount the speaker on the BACK of the door card and reinstall the vinyl/leather material covering the speakers completely. Wire the speakers to the amp and install a powered woofer under the seat (such as http://www.crutchfield.com/p_1...ssPro-SL.html?tp=114 ) and enjoy completely hidden audio.

If you're not living life on the edge, you're taking up too much space!

I had something every similar installed in my Beck. Carey uses Out of Sight Audio which is a similar device for a few bucks cheaper. I am driving 4 speakers with the Mark II and stream from my iPhone.  Door speakers are installed as you describe and the other two are mounted high up in the footwell. While it is not going to blow your socks off it the sound is clear and I have my tunes even when cruising at 70 on the interstate.

I've been looking for the right looking vintage speaker grills for the longest time. Mine are horrible. Nothing like having a vintage looking car with speaker grills that look like they're from another planet screaming, "HEY LOOK AT ME I'M A SPEAKER GRILL UNDER HERE!!!"

I hear ya Rusty that is why they are mounted as high as possible so they are not that noticeable. Sierra Madre has repro speaker and grille's but at $200/per just couldn't pull the trigger.

Bluetooth for audiophiles is an oxymoron. Couple that with the near perfect listening environment of a Speedster and you've really got something ;-).

Don't have a stereo and don't want one.

Cruising at a low speed you can definitely have a nice sound. Top up even better. Robert has a pretty powerful setup. I heard him coming from a block away at SLO. I'm thinking if you can have a nice sounding setup in a Harley fairing then surely we can make something work well for our speedsters.

It doesn't say "PURIST", it says enthusiast. I agree Bluetooth streaming music isn't perfect. In fact the ad for the JBL Amplifier even says so. I had been playing music directly from my iPod and finally switched to Bluetooth streaming. It took some additional adjustments through the equalizer and the amplifier to get it to sound better and now it does.
