New exhaust sustem is on and it sounds wonderful..quite loud, but not 'over the top' loud. It has a deep, gutteral sound. I'm happy with the Magnaflow muffler. I've had to buy a new, blank pulley tin, as one of the air holes on the old one was right over the new merged header. I cut new holes and I hope I have enough room to route the hot air tubes from the shroud to the new heater boxes without hitting the header.
I'm going to adjust the valves tomorrow, so I'll find out how easy it is to drop the muffler to get at the left hand side valve cover. Also going to mount my new Gene Berg Weber 44 DCNFs and fabricate some new linkage..boy, those carbs sit low! IDF linkage won't work with these carbs.

Aloha Ron,

Saw the new photos in your file. That exhaust looks awesome. Real clean setup you got going there. Did you fabricate the exhaust yourself, or have a pro-shop do it? What kind of engine are you runnin'?

Also, sorry to hear about your dog. Mine passed away in Feb. of '02. My parents had to put her to sleep because of cancer also. At least she lived a good life; I'm sure yours did as well.

aloha,
Joel

Hi Joel
My dog, Java, had a very good life. She had her own 10 forested acres to run in/through each day and as much loving as she could take.
I had a shop fabricate the exhaust system. I bought a Bug Pack merged header and a Magnaflow muffler and the fabricator built the rest (including shortening the merged header so it didn't stick out the back). He also rebuilt my heater boxes using 1 5/8 " tubing.
The motor is a 2110 with a mild cam and Weber 44 DCNFs.

Large primary pipe diameter (larger than 1 5/8") is not a good idea on anything but a 2,110 race engine, and then a 1 3/4" might be useful above 6,000 RPM depending on the engine build.

A good size for a 2,110 modified street merged collector pipe to muffler and muffler size is 2 1/2"; larger will probably not make more POWER but it will certainly make a lot more NOISE.

Going too large on the exhaust system almost always hurts the low end and mid-range performance and may not contribute to top end unless it is properly engineered for the engine.
My merged header was cut back to a 2" diameter, which feeds into a 2" diameter pipe, which feeds into a Magnaflow, with a 2 1/4" diameter. I'm not sure if the larger pipe has had a negative affect on the performance. Mid-range punch is very good with the 44 IDFs and should be as good once I get my 44 DCNFs on. Still running a stock 009, with points, but plan to install one of John's Mallory distributors and an Aurora box. This may perk up the power even more.
Ron
