I just bought a fiberfab car with some cool features, most notably the 1959 Porsche 1600S engine in it. The builder had a 356 donor car because there's 356 bits all over the place..fuel tank, pedals, little things here and there. VW pan but actually titled as a Porsche, with a State of California issued VIN plate, and the VIN removed from the VW pan.

Car retains its original Gelcoat finish, and needs some deferred maintenance taken care of...runs and drives quite well. I have owned several real 356 cars over the years and a 'glass speedster has long been on my bucket list (my bucket isn't deep enough for a real speedster!) I looked at a few but the 1600S motor was the deciding factor on this one. I didn't hurt that it came with a complete top and side curtains either.

It has the usual SeaRay steering wheel, black 911 gauges, and overstuffed seats..(not my style) with the 59 1600S motor Im going to morph it into a 59 pushrod GT speedster look with correct interior instruments, steering wheel, etc. ...anyone have a source for the louvered engine lid?

James, I also bought a louvered skin from Carey.

Love the bodacious louvers! A lot more 'snarly' in comparison than the normal meek Carrera louvers. I'm going to eliminate the bottom two lovers though so they don't visually line up with the bottom of the grill... Haven't install it yet because frankly I'm scared to death of prying, sawing, poking and peeling the existing skin off. Carey says it's no big deal, but he doesn't know how skittish I am. (also in my 'hoarded stash' is a set of dark red beehives and a Ghia shine down light housing!)

Bill, don't hold me to it but I think Carey's skin went for $140 something.
