Hmmm, maybe that builder is pissed, since it looks like you got a screaming deal on a well sorted-out Speedster. That car looks fantastic & appears to have the goods for sure.

The squiggly alternator wire & the hole in the firewall lead me to believe it's a Vintage.

Congrats & welcome. Another Colorado Speedster is always a good thing.
(especially for spring road trips like this one...)

Wow - is it really just the alternator wire that gives it away? You guys are impressive.

As far as the "less than freindly" manufacturer, I try to avoid drama like that. It is what it is - maybe he was just having a bad day.
As far as this car goes, it appears to be built well - great door gaps and very tight over all. Needs some minor stuff, but what car doesn't.
I have a message into vintage. Hopefully I can get some documentation on the car - specifically the motor/carbs. I am pretty comfortable working on Webbers, but they are usually 40 IDF's or 40 IDTP's. I have never worked on the type of carb that is on this car - which could be an issue as the car is coming from sea level to 6000'.

Thanks a million for the help!
Scott S
You can tell by the dash too, Call Kirk at Vintage, he is a real stand up guy and would be glad to help any way he can, I'm sure. Sometimes we just stand him up in the corner........ Drama, We thrive on Drama! That's a great attitude you have Scott, sometimes people just have a bad day. This site is like a dysfunctional family We all are a little nuts..... Watch out for Vince and GERD!!!

Great looking car, looks like good paint and interior and I love the banjo st. wheel. The clean, semi-outlaw look is fine, excpet I am not that wild about the bug-eye mounting of the driving lights so high up. Normally, they are located lower down, or even recessed inside the body. I'd be real curious how in fact they are mounted to what looks like the FG body panel -?-

Welcome to the madness -- your trip has just begun . . .
Thanks very much. I am a member of a few different forums. I am pleased to say that they are all very similar - a group of really great and knowledgable folks, with the random trouble maker thrown in the mix to keep things interesting. As I stated earlier, I hope to gain some knowledge so I can contribute vs just take take take - thats never a good thing.

This car is my third replica car. I have a D-type jag and will hopefully be taking delivery of a C-type in September if the builder stays on schedule. Finding the Speedster was a total fluke. I was actually looking for an older Audi convertable for my wife when I stumbled across the car.

Attached is a pic of where it will live, and it's "brothers and sisters"

Mark--you lucked out and have a Vintage. Great replica and fine supportive builder. Download the Owners manual and the build manual from this site.

Hard to believe that someone would make such a comment about the builder.

My car is a VS and is very nice---I have a garage full of trophies from car shows as well as some good hauls under my belt.

Share who made that comment?
ps Hook up with Dusty Johnson who is a very active and super-knowledgable member here--and an all round good guy who lives in your neighborhood. He can steer you in the right direction for helps with your car. His is also a Vintage and a gorgeous one too.

Welcome to the madness--you will be valued here. The folks are the best.
F the VS, I want the deets on that Martini stripped 914/6(?) in the pic.

Oh, and nice grab on the speedster too.
Seriously Scott, that is a very nice looking speedster. Perfect color and with just enough detail work to make it more than the average "entry level" speedster. Where have I seen a similar red looking car, hmmmmmmmmm, give me a sec, I'll remember. ;)

Ha!
It is a 72 that was converted to a six. I just recently built up a new 2.7L (pics below). It was built up as a PCA DE car, but I simply do not have the time to get it out on the track (I have a 1.5 and 3 year old girls - and a wife...)

Yes, the TF is real. The only replica in that pic is the d-type - which is my absolutely favorite car of all time.

Scott,

Nice collection of cars. I too like the 914-6. The D-Type Replica? who is the builder? Sweet ride. As a kid (59-62) I lived in Silverstone watching the best drivers in the world run the shit out of early Jags........That is why I have a E-type steering wheel in my new IM-6. At just over 400mm it works just fine!

Scott; those carbs are Solex-Kadrons. This is a reliable, trouble-free and simple carb that will get you where you want to go. Lots of advice and parts available. Google Scat and you can get a diagram of which controls are for what.

The other "tells" that it's a Vintage are the screen on the round cut out on the firewall and the covering on the dash that stops short of the edges.

Nice car.
Mikey,

I echo Terry.......at nearly 46 my back felt a lot better after golf then at 56.......even though I still love the game but with work I don't get to play as much as I would like.

BTW how far is Willmington, DE from DC? I'll be there the 19th through the 23rd on business. I'll buy you a beer!

Scott if you want to come out from Colorado I'll by one for you as well.

Nice cars!
