Well, they may have strayed somewhat from a pure interpretation of the original Speedster idea, but this is sure to make someone happy nonetheless. Even though the amounts claimed to have been invested in this creation may possibly have been overstated a bit.

But are those seats a sign that diamond-stitched upholstery has, at long last, fallen out of vogue on the Kustom Kar circuit? Is nothing sacred?

Ah well, an Asti for every Spumante, I guess.

Nowhere in the ad (at least that I saw) did they mention that this was NOT a real 356, but the drivetrain and VW title indicate that it’s a kit.  Can you spell “fraud”?

If I’m wrong I’ll retract this, but I don’t think I am.

First sentence, first paragraph:

We are proud to offer this one of a kind 356 Speedster re-creation. Everything about this wide-body Roadster screams style and performance. Thousands of hours and over 130K is invested in this classic car.

I’m a little disappointed there’s no photos of the motor. If you add up the cost of the motor, transmission, wheels, and interior you’re already at $40K. The builder also mentions chopping up a 986 for the side vents and an exhaust. Even at salvage prices that couldn’t have been cheap. The paint on that car is fantastic and the accent stripe is done equally well. Probably $10-12K in the paint and now you’re up over $50K.

I like the storage under the passenger seat; that’s a nice touch and a good idea. The Morris look good as well as the windscreen. A lot of very cool Outlaw touches on the build. Rims aren’t to my liking and the stance is a little tall.

Theres a lot to like but for most everybody on this site it’s probably a little over the top.

As Alan said, we've seen this car before. And while there are a number of things in this car that I like on their own- the cf dash, steering wheel, seats (I love the center stitching pattern!), and interior in general, my vision of what a Speedster should or shouldn't be is narrow minded enough that (for me, anyway) it's just a little over the top.

@Sacto Mitch said- "But are those seats a sign that diamond-stitched upholstery has, at long last, fallen out of vogue on the Kustom Kar circuit? Is nothing sacred?" - we can only hope, Mitch, we can only hope...

Some of you guys will remember a guy that posted his Speedster on here for sale. It was the one painted Grey with Burgundy upholstery. The car was over the top. It had an upholstered engine compartment, engraved wind screen posts and door knobs. He bought the first set of my wind wings (red ones). The car was displayed at the SEMA Show in Las Vegas.  Anyway, I discovered that he sold the car to someone in Ohio for $80 to 100K. Then it was sold again to someone in Japan and thats where it lives today.

New story...This same guy is having a Spyder built by Greg. It will have a single centered seat. I'm not sure if this car's frame will be copper plated of another car but Greg says he doing it to one .  His cars will probably be displayed at the SEMA Show this coming October...........More fun stuff.   Photo below is of the Spyder One Seater.  Bruce

We all know that you can't debate about taste, but for me it looks like a car which comes out of a bad comic drawing. That whole thing just screams bad taste for me, but what do I know, I like the super wide body speedsters, that's the reason I bought one , so for sure some people will say I have bad taste.

For more effective lights, check out VintageCarLEDs. They recommend the VC3500 or VC4000 headlight kit for Vintage Speedsters ($189 and $219 respectively for a pair). I was concerned about the aesthetic of the pure white light and he suggested the VC5000 kit could work in its "Warm Yellow"  (2500) color for $329. The "Warm Yellow" is just a filter that can be removed if I'd prefer white instead.

Seems like a great product. I'm asking for pics of "Warm Yellow" in action. I really like how my sealed beams (from the outside) look today. I don't know how far I want to stray from that look. But for those who are more concerned with optimal function, VintageCarLEDs seem to be the way to go.

I got info some time ago but I never did it as I am running H4 on seperate relays and running 80/100 which when properly adjusted are as bright as LED and less costly with Hella Euro lights.

 What Ray and Ryan said.

I posted about this before (here) , but a cheap cost-effective way to get good lighting and maintain the 'classic' look is those H4 conversion units that look just like a sealed beam on the outside but that mount H4 bulbs inside.

The Hella units are good, but the EMPI's are good, too, and a lot less. The unit does nothing electrical itself - it just holds the bulb in place and provides a reflector. Your existing sealed beam plug connects directly to the H4 bulb.

For extra measure, upgrade your wiring to short runs of 12 gauge directly from the battery to the bulbs, through dedicated relays. That makes almost as much of an improvement as the H4's themselves.

Amen, Mitch.

A set of the EMPI sealed beam H4 replacements cost less than the nice set of Silverstar H4 bulbs you’ll (maybe) want to run instead of the Chinese bulbs the kits come with. You’re all in for well short of $100, and the setup throws more light than you can imagine.

I’m always perplexed with the fixation on LED headlights when something so nearly perfect is readily available.

Ray.   I had Hella's with H4/43t sockets (I think the 43t is the Euro style) Anyway H4 Led's don't fit, only the 45t (USA style I think). I couldn't find any LED's to fit the Euro socket so I had to buy the little adaptors. What I received was made on a Lazar printer and absolutely would not work until I meticulously  modified them to work. At best, they barely worked/fit. I warned the new owner of my speedster and gave him all the nomenclature in case he wanted to change or play with them. The little adaptors came out of Canada and took about 3 weeks to get............Bruce

I bought a set but from Croatia but they were to fit P43T to my P45T Euro Hella lights.

I have not tried them as of yet because I bought a few extra P45T H4 80/100 bulbs fromn China and they are not burning out at all so I have not had to use them.   I also have some P43T bulbs 80/100 for spares to use with the rings.

If you ever need more adapters I think Dynamo is the place to go as they guarantee they will fit.
