A couple of years ago and a few years previous I started a thread like this and a few of us met along the way north on our yearly cruise to Carlisle.

I would like to gauge interest in this again this year and include those coming from farther south along the east coast. I understand Lane also has a caravan north but for some of us farther east it is out of the way to meet. I know we lost some regulars that have moved away but there might be new folks looking to cruise up together.

The timing would be on Thursday with the hope to be at the Carlisle Hotel by 4:00 or earlier give or take. Please post up if you are interested and we will see if it works out. Otherwise I will be going up solo north on Rt 15 on Thursday afternoon. That route is a nice relaxed drive if anyone wants to join.

Glenn and I decided last summer to rebuild the engine. New case, barrels and pistons, cam, lifters, rockers, etc. We finally put it in last weekend, started it and had an alarming noise  in what sounded like the valve train for #3 & #4. We took it out and pulled the head Saturday. The case was machined differently  on each side - a difference of .060. Thus the right side had .000 deck height. We are trying to get additional .060 barrel shims in time. Otherwise we'll come in his Yaris. But we will be there. So Ed, misery likes company and we continue  TO BE WELCOMED TO the MADNESS.

OK Guys

I am thinking meeting around 12:00- 12:30 on Thursday just off of Rt 15 in Frederick MD.

It is possible we used this same meeting point a few years back. Let me know if this works for everyone - I can adjust timing if needed.

We can continue 15 north and at some point it jogs off on a couple of small roads for a bit and joins 81 just south of Shippensburg PA and the hotel.

Hey guys, I be a Thursday traveler as well.  Be happy to meet anywhere north of Clarksville/Columbia whenever you say.  As to The other South East caravan hook-up-for-lunch-bunch (Lane, ,Jack, et al.), like we been doing for a while, looks like with new location will just meet at the Marriott Shipensburg and go from there to eat lunch.  Around 1:00 ish as I heard a while back.  So the DC, VA, MD thing meeting in Frederick is fine, just say when and where.

Sounds good to me. Glory Days works. Will check with Glenn but I'm sure it'll work. Found some BARREL spacers so s/b ready to go.

Paul---.060 huh?  My mistake, I was just going to post an offer for some 0.60s but mine were idle jets. Even I know that you can't use idle jets for barrel spacers!  With the same sizes there is definitely room for error.  At any rate I will have a lot of spare carb jets along with lots of other parts and tools if anyone needs supplies at Carlisle.

OK here's what's up:

The Spyder isn't gonna make it and I'm damn sad about it. Too many little things went just sideways enough to scuttle it for this week so I decided yesterday a.m. to get after Bridget's head gaskets instead. (Then last night Carlisle emailed to tell me the Spyder had a berth reserved in Building T with the nice cars so I had to email them back rescinding my promise, made just two weeks ago, to GET IT THERE SOMEHOW...sigh).

Pulled Bridget's engine this a.m. and found both motor mounts broken.

IMG_2880IMG_2879No biggie; I've got some spare stock motor mounts that'll do.

Neither of my available engine stands will work with the Subaru so I rebuilt my cheesy "engine table" about halfway to useable and set it down on that.

Tomorrow I'll reinforce the table and fix the engine to it, then pull the intake, timing belt and heads and see about cleaning everything up.

If all goes decently I'll have the engine back together by Sunday and back in the car by Monday. I'll keep you posted.

Wish me luck, boys.

Jeesh.......you both are making me look like I had no problem(s) at all. It only took us from last May to get 'er done. I would lend you Glenn but he is committed to a customer's Pantera. And driving back and forth from Kent Island three mornings in a row really makes you love that guy. Like Alan said, bring whatever you got and if it rains we can ride with you.

We still plan to see you at Glory Days.

Well, that really sucks, Ed.

You’ve been working really hard to make this car a reality/showpeace, only to have a lot of roadblocks placed in your way.  Inadmire your perseverance (you deserve the “Brass Thingie Perseverance Award”, for sure).

Work on Bridget, take a deep breath, pack your undies and head to Shippensburg.  Have a great time with your Plastic Clown Car friends.  There is no other group like us in the World.

Ed, I promise to take you for a ride in the new car and play Joe Jackson for you. I might even let you drive if you're really nice LOL.

Sorry about the stacked-up roadblocks. I've been there. You'll get it done in it's time, not yours.

I've been working hard to get my new-to-me used trailer up to par. New springs, tires, axle, and added electric brakes. Made mounts for the aluminum ramps and installed tie-down loops where they actually work for the car. I'll be finishing up the all-new lights and wiring today, then modifying the spare mount to actually work......

DMV registration Tuesday, not cutting it too close I hope.

Update. Spent the am getting my hokey-ass "engine table" shored up and the engine affixed to it in such a way that 50 ft-lbs of head torque wont make everything wobble apart.

IMG_2886Then tore her down, cleaned things up and got the gaskets in but not torqued yet. Yeah, Danny, the torque sequence on these motors is wild.

Hope to button it up tomorrow: torque the heads to spec, reinstall the timing belt, put the intake back on*

--then replace the broken motor mounts and get the engine back in.

With luck the engine will be back in by Monday afternoon and I can start and run it at least, if not test it. Hope Tuesday's decent weather so I can see if it takes.

Thanks Danny for the Scotchbrite advice. I sprayed the copper stuff on the gaskets too cuz why not?

*(I called the Suby dealer for the Idle Air Control valve today and he wanted the VIN from the car to get me the part. It's either $400 or $200, depending on the VIN I haven't had for five years...and couldn't get either part until at least Wednesday so I guess we'll be doing without that for another week or two).
