That depends on what is coming OUT of your breather, if anything. The idea is to relieve crankcase pressure.

I do not have any external air cleaner on the breather box, but I do have one line connecting the breather box to one air cleaner. In my setup, that line does NOT collect any oil.
Relieve case pressure or better yet have a negetative case pressure

I use the racer trick of running a line from header collector to the top of the breather box. Attach a Morose check valve made for this purpose at the header end so that a backfire does induce a positive pressure to the case.

The added benefit is that any blow by is pumped out the exhaust, much to the annoyance of the green patrol
