I just replaced my fuel lines in my engine compartment. I have a Spyder with a type I. They were getting pretty dry.

Now I'm in need to replace my oil lines. They're 7 years old. Currently they are Parker 7212 jiffy hose push on 1/2"ID. This hose is rated at 300psi and 212 degree max working temp. I was surprised at the temp rating. Since our cars can reach that temp easily. Should I be concerned with this? It's worked so far without a failure.

I do have a chunk of a similar rated hose that I had ordered when I installed my thermostat. If this hose is adequate, then I could order another chunk of it and redo my oil lines. If not, I'd have to order about 13' at twice the price for an upgraded hose with a higher temp range.

BTW, my fittings are the Fragola push lok AN8 fittings. I currently have hose clamps on them too, just in case. I've read somewhere that, with our startup pressures, a hose can pop off of the push lok fittings especially being the age they are. I might go with a different type of clamp. I'm not a fan of the typical screw hose clamp.

What say you?

So, you already have AN8 adapters on all your stuff? That's great.

I use nylon braided hose and ends by whoever. I use Jeg's or Summit brand. Their brand hose is available in 10 or 20 footers. Much cheaper than Earl's or Fragola. That way you don't need hose clamps. It takes a while to make them up especially if you have to make them for my system.

What do you have. Carlos? Two lines to the oil filter and two to the cooler?

I did cheap out on my AN6 fuel lines. I ordered Evil Energy(China stuff) from Amazon. 20 feet of hose, 2 180degree, 2 90 degree, 2 45 degree, and 4 straights for 60 bucks. It's been awesome so far, 1.5 years in.

Here's a bargain, using stainless steel inner braid and nylon outer:

Pro tip: BUY the AN wrenches, or just one adjustable AN wrench, won't mar the fittings.

Also, buy the installation tools and use a vice. Use light oil on the threads. I cut the hoses with a cutoff wheel, then clean them with Brakleen after assembly.

Fragola push lok AN fittings is what came with the car. When I installed the thermostat for the oil, I just ordered the same kind of fitting so they'd match. I plumbed it in the two lines going to the external cooler that's located in the typical Vintage location.

I cut the old hose off of two of the existing fittings so that I could make a new line. Fitting the hose over the barb took some effort but I got it done. You just have to hold your tongue between your teeth a certain way. Since I'm not using stainless braided lines, I just cut them with a razor.

I did mar a couple of fittings, so I'm going to order one of the wrenches and a couple more ends.

Should I be concerned with not using hose clamps on the new hoses? I'm using push lok hose with push lok fittings, so they don't recommend clamps.

If I can get away with the piece of 212degree hose that I already have plus another 6 foot or so that'd be a savings. I'm trying to keep expense down.

I'm also going to reconfigure the lines a bit. The one brass fitting coming out of the engine is a 90 degree, then it goes to another 90 degree AN fitting. I want to change the 90 degree fitting to a 45 and then a straight AN fitting. I'm not going to do this before the Tour De Smo, so I can show you what I'm talking about.  I just feel like the brass 90 a very abrupt. I might just be overthinking it, which I tend to do.

We have been using the Parker push on hose well over 20 yrs and i can say we have never had a hose fail. We never use hose clamps , if you use the correct hose and fittings they are not needed.

I think you answered your own question (They're 7 years old.)

Greg

Hose clamps are a “belt and suspenders” sort of solution that appeals to a certain demographic.

Just as a note, I went through this and Carlos you did help me with this. I used a rated hose out of Summit which has a nylon outer sleeve with AN fittings. The hose from my filter head to cooler split with minimal hours on it.

You have to make sure to hold the line fitting while you tighten the nut or the line forms a linear twist/tension. The oil gets hot, the line gets hot and collapses or in my case created a linear crease and split along the line of tension. The stainless reinforced maybe a different story.

I ran hard at SMO last year and all is well.

You can twist to Chubby Checker, just not your oil lines.
