While the whole purpose of the plate originally was to remove it to clean the sludge at oil change time, Anthony, with a full flow filter there's no need to go through the whole procedure every oil change (I know you know this; only stating it for some in the peanut gallery), so being able to just drain the oil is a great convenience (as you've also already pointed out). 

Yes, Ed, absolutely. But I machined/faced flat the area that used to say Claude's Buggies. That way I could have a sealing surface. The rest I did with a drill press and a standard 14mm x1.5 tap.

You could do pipe thread, but that's not my choice.

I take mine down every couple years to clean it, not usually much there. There shouldn't be anything there if you are full-flowed and remote filtered.

And yes, I'm certainly lucky with the people in my life! That includes all of you knuckleheads......
