Simple enough larger engine option makes it go faster front disc brakes option makes it stop better. Still what advantages does the 3.88 transmission option offer in a speedster replica? Live in Southern California not going to be driving in the snow like my mememories of what I did in my youth in Chicago when I had a 914.

The larger engines provide a lot more torque at lower speeds, so a higher geared rear end, coupled with the usual .89 ratio fourth gear, will allow you to cruise the interstates or freeways and keep up with traffic while turning fewer engine rpms. The 3:88 is a good trade-off between lower revs and reduced cooling and seems to work well for a lot of people on here.
