My name is Dick Cox and I was bornt and reared in Maud, Okra-homer. To get to Maud, you have to go through Bowlegs, Oklahoma, Har-de-har-har.(Belch, Fart)

Howdy-do

I have a 41 Buick Coupe with the Straight 8. Has anyone shortened the frame, placed a Ryan body on backwards, and then ran a tall reverse gear successfully? See, then I would have uh, one, two three, yeah three reverse gears for whipping into parallel parking like a Big Dog, too damn cool, yep. Would the radiator need to be strapped to the front bumper? And can I get a bumper without that chrome strip thingy? Need a place for my Sooners bumper sticker.

( it's just me guys, just old Jim Bob Ward. I'm testing the new feature. Shhhhh!)
I'm so EXCITED to finally find this site. I've always LOVED the 366 roadster! I think Italian cars RULE! I've wanted one since I was 14 or 15!!! I'm 16 now, and that's a long time to wait!

Just the other day, I was measuring my Chevy Chevette, and I realized that the wheelbase is really close to a 366 (I think). Wouldn't it be neat to mount one of these sexy Italian 366 bodies on a fine example of American know-how!?! It would truly be the best of east and west! Does anybody make a kit? What manufacturer is best? I heard CNC is great, they sure make neat aluminum parts! What tires should I use on this car I don't have? Which snow tires would I use to drive this car all winter? Does anybody make a hardtop for a 366? I hear Fibersteel is going to make sliding side curtains and hardtops for replicas "any day now". I'm holding out until CNC makes rollup windows for their kit. I'm so excited, but I'm unemployed and only have $350 to spend- but the Chevette should work out real good, because I got a small block Chevy under the work-bench out of my uncles 75 Nova, and I've got plenty of time. Does anybody make headers for this swap? How much advance should I run on my timing? I drive about 36K mi a year, how long can I expect the hubcaps to last? I haven't got a car yet, but I'm filling out my owners survey under "unknown" maker, 'cause I don't know yet, but the car's all 10s!!! in my mind.

This will probably be my last post in the "newbies" section, because I know everything already! I'm so into this! Speedsters FOREVER!!!, or about 6 months, until I get bored and move on to something else (like pocketbikes, or scooters, or stereo equipment, or micro-brews).
Guess I'm somewhat puzzled so I'll ask a couple of dumb questions hoping I'll get intelligent answers. Does this mean that this area is off limits to other than Newbies? What entitles a Newbie to post on the "regular threads?" Is there a time clock somewhere that tells a Newbie that he is a Oldie? What was the catylst that started this new area?

Bruce
you know what else would be kind of fun.....to be able to look back at all your own posts so you could realize how funny some of your questions are when you first start researching and asking questions......I know I asked some good ones that I get a good chuckle out of now. And yes I like to use several periods instead of the comma when I type.....................its like I have my own computer accent!!!
I'm kinda with West Coast Bruce on this one - We've had plenty of newbies posting in the other sections and usually they get rapid and (mostly) intelligent responses.

But then again, even as this place seems like a good local bar, some of the newbies might feel intimidated and not want to post for fear of ridicule (what, from US?) unless they see a "Newbie" section and feel it's all right to ask a question that's bugging them, but don't want to look stupid to the motor(speedster)heads. Many of them seem to remain lurkers for a long time (and maybe that's a good thing - they'll learn a lot that way, too) so this might encourage them to get involved.

Just my two quahogs (local, Rhode Island currency)

Hey,

I'm not being a bitcher about it but if the intent was to give the newbies an area to post, who other than newbies will answer. Stan, I was not being sarcastic about your rather funny post but only about the real purpose of this category. We were all newbies at one time and as mentioned we lurked for quite awhile until we felt comfortable
about showing our ignorance. We soon found what a great site this is and nobody, with possibly one exception, ever took you to task. If it hadn't been for this site I am sure I would still be saying something like, sure like those Speedster Replicas but wish there was someplace to find more info. As Brigham Young one said, "This is the place."

Bruce
Looks like this is just a place for frequently asked questions. If Theron is saying he's going to bookmark the most popular questions, this could be a great resource to post all of those topics that have been answered a bunch of times before, so newbies can go to just one section (like, which carbs should I run with my 2110? How should I break my motor in? How do I adjust the torsion bars? How do I install a windshield for the first time? Why was there some guy trying to hit on me with a Woody doll at Carlisle?).

I'm a moderator for a few other forums, and we do similar things there, which work out well. Good call, Theron!
I'm hopeing the Newbie section serves a couple of purposes.
1) It makes the Newbie lurkers feel more at home and open to ask questions.
2) It is a place where I will permanently post some of the FAQs.

After all, at least once a week there is a thread entitled "I'm tall, will I fit?" or "Who makes the best car?" These are good questions, but they could easily be answered once, not 50+ times.

Great Idea Theron!

Having a place where all the nudies can "hang out" together is a terrific idea.

Years ago when I was a L.A. County Lifeguard at ZUMA Beach in MALIBU. I worked one day a week (for a couple of summers) at the Nudie Beach at the end of Point Dume, the nudie beach is called "Pirates Cove".

I noticed that nudies seemed more comfortable when they got to "hang" with other nudies, rather than the folks wearing bathing suits, so I think your theory is correct Theoron. Judging by the sheriff's reaction I think the opposite is true as well. So I think having a nudie section here will work really fine.

I'd like to suggest you make the nudie section webcam friendly too. If you do I want "gender disclosure" on the registry.

Good evening all, I have to thank Herny at Intermeccanica (sp) for directing me to to Speedsterowners.com. I called him asking about the BlueRay GT Engineering Super 90. His hope was that I'de find Beck Speedters and Mr Hines. Heres a bit of a story for all that will bear with me.
I fell in love with the car in the 80's at a kit car show in Columbus OH. As a teenager, $27K for a turnkey of what I would consider one of my dream cars was affordable but still far out of my reach. In recent years I have looked for them to find that the phone numbers listed in my old Kit Car mags. directed me to a Law Firm. Dream lost. This website helped me fing Carey. With Carey's help and with a lot of digging, I finially found one in Indianapolis. She's red and was built in '93 at the expense of $42K. 5 speed , 4wheel discs, 2110 with dual dig. fuel inj. I drove out, picked up a U-haul trailer, and pulled her home this past weekend. Dream realized! She's now titled as a 61 356 B Cabriolet. She's 11 years old with about 17K Kilometers. I couldn't be happier. Unexpected power, beautiful looks, and I hope to keep her for a long, long time.
Honestly, if it not for this newbie section, I would have just kept browsing and reading about everyone else's dreams. Take care all.
Mitchell P.
