Would appreciate any input or experience on the process of registering a VW titled/chassis speedster such as Vintage as an Antique vehicle in PA. Is it possible?, or are they automatically categorized as Special Construction, which require in depth safety inspections. Thanks.

Jim The official way to title and tag the speedster in PA is to do an Enhanced Inspection by completing PENNDOT forms MV 426B, photos, build material list, sales tax paid for parts etc etc... then it has to go to the enhanced inspection they'll want DOT taillights , windshield washers and other silly stuff...this is near insanity. My way, ( I have done quite a few speedsters) is to just title it as a VW Beetle ( you'll need a pencil tracing of the vin to take to the PENNDOT Messenger Service for out of state Titles ) then get someone local to you to do a standard MV inspection ...a case of beer seems to help. BTW if the VW year is old enough , which I am sure it will be ( 25 yrs) you can get a PA antique tag witch is permanent and does not require any PA inspection Messaage me in need be Alan
