I am building a 2007cc type 1 with 42mm x 37.5mm heads p&p, and a probably a cam equivilant to a engle 110 or 120 to put in a speedster and I was wondering if anyone could recommend a header and muffler combo that would work good and not have any clearance issues with the back of the body.

Thanks
I'm wondering if your big valve heads and an Engle 110 would be a good combo. I don't think so. I think the 120 would be a better bet. I'm just installing my motor: 2110, 40 x 35.5 044s (ported)Web 86b cam and Pauter 1.3 rockers and 44 Webers. I'm running a 1 5/8 " merged custom made system. If you were using 40 x 35.5 heads a 1 1/2" system would do, but with those huge valves I think you will have to go with a 1 5/8 " system to get the most out of them. Those heads really flow, but you need the cam and proper sized exhaust system to get the most out of them. Do you plan to run heater boxes?
If so, there are a few really nice 1 1/2" systems out there that include heater boxes. Check out Eddie's file. He has a really nice 1 1/2" system on his car.

The easy way is to go get a CSP setup however this is restricted to 1.5 inch. The fit is near perfect and you don't have to remove the exhaust to get at the valves. The downside is it's pricy and it's only available in the 1.5" however it really does sound good and looks stock.

John, a few members have used merged headers, but they're not ideal for speedsters, as they tend to sit too low. I bought a good, thick walled 1 5/8" merged header and then had a shop do some custom work on it. First, I had the header shortened, so that it didn't stick out the back too far and I also had the pipes altered so that they sat up a little higher. Pictures at 84 IM flier in the files, if you're interested in a look.
