Hi All,

I've read some horror stories of people bending their chassis and the doors not shutting on their speedsters cos they have jacked up the back of the car in the wrong place. I've got to attempt to change my clutch cable at the weekend and I wondered if anyone had any pictures about where I should jack it up from and where i should place the jack stands? I've been told to just jack up the back of the car underneath by the engine, but i need more specifics, is there a particular place? I know people might cringe when they read this as it's so easy to them, but we've all got to start somewhere and I'm a complete newbie to all of this. Everyone has been so helpful so far, so I thought that I would just throw it out there and see if anyone can help a rookie like me :-) I also need to buy the trolly jack and stands, does anyone know the weight limit that I would need to buy for, I think it's about 500kg, but please correct me if I am wrong.

Thanks so much in advance everyone,

Olly

Olly-click the "Forum" tab (above, center right) to get you to the forum/category screen. Then click the 11th category down which is "Search"-click this and enter "Jack Points" as your search words (don't need the quote marks) and it will list the previously discussed threads re: this issue. At least you'll get closer to your answer. Hope this is helpful.

Olly--here's a simple exlanation.

For the front, use the beam and put the jack (s) where the arrows show.

For the rear--use the spot where the jack stand is being used in the photo.

These are the easiest for me but there are other points as shown on the diagram.

Don't hold the car up with jacks---always use jack stands.

Good luck!

I jack up the entire rear end by putting a piece of 2 x 4 on top of the jack and come up right in front of where the fork around the transmission comes together, right behind the tunnel drain hole.

Because my car is close to the ground I first raise the front by driving onto ramps. That raises the car enough to get my jack under it.

I tried to raise it a little by driving up onto 2 x 10s to raise it 1 1/2" but shot one backwards.

You should note that Jack's picture of the front beam is upside down.
