Hey Terry,

I'm ahead of you this time!

Okay,  time to start gearing up for the June WCC event (aka West Coast Cruise).  I've heard from several folks that want us to stay in the same hotel and one who found another hotel on the south end of town, but unsure of the amenities.

I'm all about changing things up to make them interesting, but I know most folks have been very satisfied with the hotel so far.  Considering the cook to order breakfast, the free (yes free) happy hours with craft beer and local wines, the plethora of courtyard seating complete with a fire pit and then we add in the fact they provide us with a room for dinner free of charge.  It's hard to change, but now is the time to provide feedback or suggestions.

The way it shakes out right now, I'm looking at June 8th-10th which is the Friday through Sunday.  I've had requests for additional activities which I would be happy to work on facilitating.  One that's always brought up is a golf excursion.  If anyone wants to come early and play on Friday or stay late and play on Monday, I'll be happy to arrange that.  Other thoughts and ideas are Hearst Castle tours, ziplining through vineyards, etc.

To keep this simple, please email me at hammerinatgmaildotcom or PM me or, if you have my number, call me to discuss your suggestions or provide feedback if you are interested in changing things up.  If it's simply to have me continue planning as it's always been and to book the same hotel, mention that here on the forum.

Once we get past the planning stages we're going to move away from this thread for simplicity and I'll start a "WCC 2018" thread.  Hopefully we won't lose anyone to the confusion of multiple threads.

Looking forward to hearing from you guys and seeing everyone in June!

Cheers, Scott

Scott

Nice comfortable rooms/suites at a fair price, combined with the noted amenities would be a very hard deal to beat. Plus its located just around the corner from our Saturday morning cruise rendezvous. IMHO, no need to change a winning formula.

I agree with @MusbJim - no need to change a winning formula

My wifey and I had a blast. We plan to attend next year. If all goes well, I might have her Coupe built so that she can join in on the cruise

I agree with Terry. The only poorly implemented activity was the Taco Truck lunch. The service and lines were too much. Everything else was fantastic.

I had a great time and I am looking forward to next year.

"Poorly implemented"???

Winner, winner, chicken dinner!  We have a new volunteer. Thanks Noel!!!  I'll get the hotel and dinner.  You handle the lunch arrangements.

Geez, a little defensive?  I am sorry you asked, The world I come from it is called feedback and you asked for it. Nothing personal intended. The fact those taco truck folks cannot run a business is hardly your fault.

Noel, dude...you need to dial it back a bit, okay? Feedback is fine but show a little tact when you present your opinion. Scott works hard to put this show together. Using "poorly" in a sentence when referring to any kind of action or performance usually will cause a negative response.

The lunch wasn't poorly implemented, it was poorly executed. That fault lies with the owner/operator of the taco business, not with Scott. Any good business should know its limitations and the folks operating the taco grill obviously didn't know their limitations.

I was at a shooting match just the other day and the one-man taco grill dude fed 60 people in less than 20 minutes. The people operating the taco grill in Paso last year had no clue what they were doing and that's why lunch took so long.

Now, if Scott were behind the grill you could blame him but he wasn't so once again, it wasn't poorly implemented, it was poorly executed. And that isn't Scott's fault.

Now that's funny!  Pretty sure the "chicken dinner" comment showed I was joking.

Noel, I'm the last person who gets defensive when feedback is provided (even though the feedback I requested was geared more toward potential hotel changes). I'm sensing your defensiveness at the suggestion that you organize lunch?!  Not to worry, I don't want to put any undue pressure on you!!! LOL  However, I'm always happy to accept any volunteers that want to help make this thing happen as it truly has grown and should continue to grow.

To get back on track...

I'm pretty sure we can all agree the street taco vendor was overwhelmed, but consider that there were a lot more than just the 55+ people in our group.  The entire Tin City area was also buying from those folks.  Unfortunately, our group continues to grow and make it difficult to find anyone who will not only accommodate us as a large group, but not try to charge exorbitant amounts of money for measly little box lunches of a sandwich, chips, potato salad and water (last years quote was $25/pp and $20/pp for wine tasting).

That being said, it appears the majority of folks I spoke with prefer to keep the hotel the same so I will be making contact today to get a block of rooms scheduled for the dates I've mentioned.  I'll post here once the block of rooms are available.

And, as Teby likes to say...

That is all!

****NEWS FLASH****

Our rooms at the Quality Suites have gone up, but a deal was made so not as much.

Quality Suites is now at $279/ night through all the travel booking sites.  The group rate discount is only 12% which would make it $245/ night.  Our deal was $229/night, but wait!  It gets better!!!

We are now booked at the Quality Suites for $219/night.  The hotel someone suggested is still going for over $260/ night without breakfast, drinks and suites.

We have 30 rooms blocked until April 27th (Friday).  If you miss that date, you're on your own.  If you think you want to go, but aren't sure you can make it, call and book and, if needed, cancel before the cancellation date of 2 days prior.  Of course, contact me before you cancel since I may have someone waiting for a room and we can transfer it to them (happened last year). But, the simple thing is DON'T WAIT!

Hotel info is as follows:

Quality Suites

1631 Monterey St.

San Luis Obispo, CA 93401

(805)541-5000

Tell them you're in the "SOC Group" for the special rate.

Last things...

1) I'll leave this thread going until January before I switch over to a new thread as mentioned above.  When I do, I'll repost the hotel info for those who didn't see this thread. Everything else to know will be in that one thread and this one can fall off the board.

2) Tell everyone you know about the dates and info so they can start looking at the site and get geared up for the next shindig!

Looking forward to seeing everyone.  P.S. I still gotcha early Dundernuckel!!! LOL

I forgot to mention....

For anyone who likes to let their panties get in a bunch,,,this will be a "sin chones" event!  Happy people only,,,grumpy folks need not apply!

Just kidding.  Remember Noel, I don't take things personal, but when I do, I just alter your cruise map!!! LOL  Come on down. First round is on me between 5 and 7 on Friday!

Al Gallo posted:

Sounds like fun.  How many miles?  June 8-10.  Is the room all 3 nights or just Friday and Saturday?

@Al Gallo

The special rate is for Friday night and Saturday night. The rates usually go down Sunday night anyway so you should be good. Several people stay Sunday night and leave on Monday. My wife and I will be leaving on Monday this year.

Saturday’s drive is usually around 75-90 miles with a couple stops along the way.

Terry Nuckels posted:

Damn, Scott! You are so "on it" this year. You must be caught up on home projects or you're disgusted with your golf game to be this proactive...

Guess I need to get my reservation in. I'll post the info on the Facebook page.

Neither one Terry!  I just hate to be nagged! LOL

Just kidding my friend.  I just wanted to be sure we got the dates set with the hotel.  Not to mention, I had visitors one weekend who asked if we had dates yet (Thanks Leong's and my crooked accountant friend, GERD).

No moss gathers on a rolling stone...

Mitch Toll has emailed the artwork along with an updated one for 2018.  It's the same as last year, but the year has changed.

And, no Will, it's not a marijuana leaf.  I think you may have smoked a bit too any palm trees! LOL

If anyone has any thoughts about changing the artwork for 2018, please feel free to email it to me a sample you've created.  Otherwise, I think Mitch's artwork was well received and seems to be perfect for this gathering.  Maybe we could add a street taco to it? BwaHaHaHa!!!

Gentlemen, I think a new year deserves a new shirt.

I'm not pitching the old design - I sent it to Scott - @slofuzz - simply because he asked.

I think, in trying to break Terry Nuckels' world speed record for whipping together a West Coast Big Do, he didn't want the absence of a shirt design to hold things up.

So, no offense at all is taken if there's a new shirt.

We have never been factions of short sleeves and long sleeves, of crew necks and turtlenecks, of old shirts and new shirts. We are, and always will be, the united shirts of SLO.

Awesome work Scott @OCC! I know I'm a choosey beggar, but if you're really opening up the conversation for direction, here are my 2 cents.

When I picture my perfect 2018 SLO shirt, I picture a clean graphic like the attached images (all from Etsy), with "West Coast Cruise 2018" in smaller text. Maybe the SOC logo (as you have it) on the sleeve.

Or, in a totally different direction, something inspired by a 1950s-1960s Porsche advertisement. A shirt that looks like it could've been printed in 1957, if it didn't have the 2018 date on it. I attached some examples of inspiration. Here's a style I think could work, but with an "18" and a Speedster.

For what it's worth. Otherwise, very happy to wear whatever you all come up with. I agree with @Sacto Mitch, "We are, and always will be, the united shirts of SLO."

Hello all

Can someone please tell me more about this gathering / event?

The shirts look cool and the 2018 video was inspiring, I would love to attend.  Even the drawing for the chicken dinner sounds exciting..  But it looks like someone has won it already....  Is there another chance to win?

My only trepidation would be if anything was poorly implemented I may have to think twice ..  but after reading further looks like Mr Fuzz has it well handled..

best regards

tebs

This is a mostly family friendly event. A few years back we hadba guy pressing hit butt cheeks on random truck tonneau covers.  We also had a crooked cop and his kid show up a few times.  They fleeced the participants of their hard earned money. On occasion the hotel staff has to fish celphones out of urnals. There were FALSE reports of one old guy who threw up in the bushes. In the early days the hotel was overrun with rabid rodents. One attende was almost mauled to death. True story.

All in all... Aside from that? A good time.

Hold on a second Ted.  Only people who actually go to this event are allowed to dis it like this!

***UPDATED PHONE NUMBER***

Apparently I made an error in posting the phone number for the hotel.  I found this out after GERD complained he couldn't get in touch with the hotel and, after leaving several messages, no one would call him back!  Hmmm??! Wonder what he said on the message that scared them from calling!  And here I accused him of being a dyslexic accountant.

@calmotion, what part of Nor Cal do you reside? A decent size of like-minded plastic potato owners around Sacramento. Last year we headed down from a Vacaville starting point, then headed down 80 to 680 and on to 101 where we continued south to 152, where we picked up @Bob Hampton and @Ryan (formerly) in NorCal and headed inland to pick up highway 25 for a Mr. Toad's Wild Ride before heading back to 101 and down to Paso Robles to meet up with @slofuzz@Fast Eddie@GERD, among others, for lunch. Then we all headed down to the host hotel.

We can start a separate thread to plan if anyone is interested in repeating this. What do you say? @Rick99GSX, @Dave Mitchell? @Sacto Mitch, are you doing it this year? @TRP, are you and Alexis free this year or kidbound?

June 8th-10th. No decision on game time but in the past it’s usually about 0900 hours.

Bumping it again.

For all those following this thread,,,time to move over to the actual thread for the WCC 2018 that will provide information on the weekend and money needed for dinner etc.

For those who plan meet ups to drive to the event, this would be a perfect thread to continue to use since it's titled "Planning".

To those who aren't "following" or "liking" this thread, you may want to do so and also do the same with the new thread.

Let the games begin!

And here's the link to the actual West Coast Cruise 2018 thread:
