I've seen in pictures that VS lap seat belts are bolted to the floor behind the
front seats. Is this true?? Does it not need to be bolted to the frame
somewhere?? If there is no shoulder strap .... it that not really dangerous??

Also ... Does VS cars have wind shield washer nozzles for wind shield washer liquid??

And one last question not pertaining
to VS cars ....

Standard installation for seat belts in a VW pan-based installation
is a bolt through the floor with a fender washer between the pan and
the nut. Vintage does not offer a windshield washer as standard, at
least they didn't in early 2001. The normal installation for stone
guards is with headlight lens removed. John Steele of JPS
Motorsports may have adapted these guards to install over the lens,
however. For more up-to-date info, call the above manufacturers.

Even the original VW Type 1 had the seat belts thorough the pan. By
the way, my 73 Vette convertible has the seatbelts throught he
Fiberglass floorboard with about a 4 inch by 3 inch plate on the
underside. If GM coulda been sued, they woulda been. They do hold
up though I've seen a guy wrap a vette around a tree at over 60 and
the seat belts held. No it wasn't me. It was a crash I came upon
early enough to check it all out.
Strength of seatbelt anchoring should not be an issue so long as they
are properly braced on the opposite side. Sailboats routinely have
their cleats and standing rigging bolted through the fiberglass
topside without problems, so long as a proper chain plate is
installed. Works fine.

Safety......now there is a tough one. I am considering installing
three inch lap belts which look more period correct than those which
came with my car. This would be done for cosmetic reasons only. If
safety is the concern, probably only roll bars and a full five point
harness will keep me safe, especially in a rollover accident. I don't
have nightmares about waking up dead after a fatal crash, but then I
don't dwell on it either. Maybe I should???

When I was a young whipper snapper (one word or two), I used to ride
on the center arm rest of my Dad's Frazier Manhatten (he had two,
first a 1947, later a 1951). I believe in a bad front enter, I would
have gone sailing, and not in the best sense of the word. I guess my
best defense is to be alert, drive defensively and soberly and hope
for the best.
