Just an update, I have spent the past three days battling the Oregon
DMV who took it upon themselves to register my Speedster as a "2000
ASBLD," meaning an assembled vehicle built in 2000. With this
registration, I would have had to smog the vehicle in 2004 to 2000
standards. Yeah, right.
It always pays to go above the DMV workers' heads. I contacted the
State DMV upper management and one of the three DEQ (Oregon
emmissions) managers who agreed with me and cited the actual codes
and chapters which apply. I got their names and direct phone numbers
along with these codes and headed to DMV. To my luck, I got to speak
with the same Nazi DMV worker I've been battling for days. After
citing the codes and giving her the direct numbers,
she "mysteriously" changed her mind and not only corrected my
registration/title to be smog exempt, she registered it as a '57
Porsche Speedster, no "replica", no "kit car", etc.
Man it is satisfying to beat the DMV!!!
