Thanks for the help. The VS hood has a tight little access window for small fingers to fasten nuts to bolts. I lost a nut to the inside of the hood and had no luck fishing it out. 

A word of caution : the bolt that holds the spring is tightened in a way that it'll be in alignment with the hole on the frame. Initially, I took the latch assembly off to get better access to the handle. Putting it back on required some trial and error to get the tension right for the spring to travel back into the hole when you closed the hood. 

I used a 13mm and 9/16" open-ended wrenches and a 14mm socket for the bolt. To screw the handle down, you'll need a small sized Allen wrench, so have a full array to get the right size.
