It’s awesome. Still waiting for the tags before I take it on long rides, but I put about 30 miles on it. 2019 build, 250 miles on it (now 280 😂). Subura 2.5 DOHC 180 Hp, IRS, disks all around, upgraded tranny (love it) new custom leather, blaupunk, etc

drives absolutely awesome but engine is slow to turn over on startup. Crank is iffy, even though battery seems to hold charge. May need new battery or alternator problem?

if anyone is in the Escondido area I’d love to get together and have a knowledgeable person check it out and give me any advice.

thanks

mike

Did you buy it used from John or off of an ad? If you didn't buy it from JPS you could take it to John since you're only about 30 miles from his shop. Maybe you can have him give it a once over and fix any issues you've found. It seems several on here lately have had good luck with John giving good service on cars bought used.

It was a customer of John’s but I bought it through John. Yes I am taking it to him to check the cranking power. I must say, he bent over backwards for me. Buying was a pleasure, except it took the damn owner a month to get the title. John fixed a few things and installed a new interior and badges for me. Still would like to get an expert opinion on the car since this is my first replica. It seems high quality to me so far.

thx

@MikeM

There’s a good new-buyer checklist that you can use or give to a trusted mechanic to use as a guide in checking out the car.

https://www.speedsterowners.co...acceptance-checklist

Yes, it looks like a lot, but if used right it will provide you with a safe car to drive and peace of mind for you.

It was originally written because of the habit of one builder to ship unsafe cars to distant customers.  Hopefully, that has now changed.

Very best of luck with your new car.  It’s very pretty and deserves to be driven!

Thanks guys for the info and checklist. I’m up to 300 miles! I think @barncobob is right about the slow crank. Is it normal for it to huff and puff on these Subies without an upgraded starter?

I can't help with the Subie information but the car was built 2 years ago and only had 250 miles put on the clock. That says more about the battery condition than anything else, especially if it wasn't on a high quality battery conditioner. Batteries don't like to sit around waiting to be used. They last the longest when they are used. And depending on where it was stored it may lend itself to the condition of some of the electrical components. If it was a dry climate I wouldn't worry about it too much but if it was in a humid or salty air environment you may want to clean some of the grounds etc.
