The last time I had tried this concept it was 2 AA's and a yellowy little incandescent bulb. I threw that one out. Now the technology is ready and solves the problem of getting enough light into the speedster engine compartment. Also the problem of yard errands now that it is dark by 4:30pm, and  what the copilot should use to read on a long night drive. Comes as a pair: one on your forehead and one on the charger.

I have a couple I bought years(10?) ago for mountain biking at night. They are massively bright, like a headlight. I put one on the bars and the other on my helmet. I could ride just as fast as in the daytime. They have rechargeable Li-Po batteries on a cord.

Now I have one under the Spyder as a reverse light, powered by the car and triggered by the trans switch. It has a fresnel wide-angle lens on it and it works very well.

I wouldn't use one of those on a co-pilot's head. That light WILL blind the driver when the copilot turns toward the driver. If you need a map light it should be pretty dim and illuminate downward only.

For work, I ended up with a collection of headlamps. Imo, the best are 123-powered LED. I have a dual brightness one that’s my favorite, but now that I don’t get free 123’s, my favorite is a dual-powered one that I power with a single rechargeable AA.
For my work, the rechargeable Li-ion lamps took too long to recharge and the charge didn’t last though a 8 hour load out. But for car work, just about anything is fine.
