HI, I'm new and thought I would ask the old pros about the 550 spyder reliability. I live in Vegas. Do you find that you are always fixing something? I would be using this as a second car, but here in vegas it is always top down weather so who knows.
Thank you in advance,
Paul
Basically, it's an air-cooled VW. Most people have modified engines, but even so, if the parts are good quality and assembly clearances are correct any engine should be pretty reliable as long as it's serviced regularly and properly, and you don't beat it to death. If you keep the engine and oil temperatures reasonable then higher BHP cars will probably require a valve job and perhaps rings at 35,000 to 45,000 miles (but some go to 60,000 or 70,000 without rings/valves).
