Went back at it today trying to learn how to change my fan belt. Before starting I thought I'd call CB Performance to hear what their suggetions would be since they built the engine, but I found out that the fan shroud and generator is not part of their responsiblity, so Greg at Vintage received my call. He said to just hang on to the fan blade with one hand and use the wrench to loosen the fan nut. I did use a sturdy glove to hold the blade, but was not able to budge the nut.
Went and got the spanner wrench Porsche tool made for just this job, but found the holes the pins are meant to go into not deep enough, or blocked by the other half of the pulley assembly to make use of the tool. What's next? Thanks for your time. Karl Dempwolf

Thanks for the help Jim, the allen wrench in the pulley shaft and a very long 24mm wrench on the nut and off it came. I'll be sure to keep these tools in the car. Reason for my panic in having to know how to replace a belt, I remember as if it was yesterday. The year was 1966-67 going on a camping trip with my then girlfriend, now wife Diane in my Speedster; before we got to Lancaster the first belt broke, the second in Sequoia, and just south of Bakersfield at 10 pm on the way home on a deserted stretch of Rout 99 I ran out of belts. Spent the night waiting and hoping for help, none came.....

PS does anyone need or want the official Porsche tool, a Spanner or Pin wrench designed to remove fan belts. The pins do fit into the holls on the pulley. I purchased this item from Performance Products yesterday, paid $29 plus tax. Thanks all for your help, Karl Dempwolf
