Went to my local grocery store this a.m. and noticed—what's this? A car show?

So I went home,  put the groceries away and fired up the Spyder.

Turned out it was a cancer benefit and $20 to enter. OK why not? Then I got a door prize: a 5-gallon pail of rags, starting fluid, Stabil, PB Blaster, brake kleen, degreaser  and silicone spray and—get this!—they were all in separate cans! Total score.

Cool stuff all over the parking lot. If you know what this is you're way hipper than me.

Air conditioning, automatic...435HP?

Did GM loose a dual quad 327 Corvette on America? I ask because the intake on this one had the telltale snowflake casting mark.

I did not have the only kit car.

There were several donors as well...

This '66 Barracuda was immaculate.

This guy left the bench seat and column shifter and I endorse that.

Some of this, some of that...

The '41 Chevy I parked next to was SEMA-level.

So I filled out the "judgment form" and I asked the nice lady what to put for year and make etc. given its true identity. She put me in the Rod/Custom category and wrote down "Spyder 500" on her form...

In the end they gave me a trophy.

Made it home ahead of the rain too. Not bad.

Ding ding ding ding! Good eye Jesse. Also—per Hagerty—the dual-quad intake was a very common option starting in 1956: "’56 came its first dual quad V-8 rated at 225 hp. It was a $172.20 extra over the base engine with a single four-barrel carb, and most Corvettes built that year—3080 of the 3467—were equipped with the option." The '61 was still only a 283; 2x4 intake reportedly made 270 HP and was put on over 2800 of them that year.

Earlier today:

Heard about a Sunday a.m. meet in Bel Air, about 15 miles from my house. So I donned the Snoopy hat and rolled up there. It was about 15-20 cars but most of them I had not seen before. Nor had they seen me. Very cool, friendly group.
