I've confirmed 20 people for the Fiddlin' Pig for the evening of the 15 October. The fiddlin' and pickin' starts at 6:30. WE need to be in our places at 6:00 o'clock.

Lane, If this number increases, let me know ASAP. Late comers or people not signed up as 1 October, and not part of the original 20 may have or will sit in the back! No Complaining If I DO NOT get a COMPLETE LISTING!

I need the names of all people by 30 September!!!!! Those not on the list supplied by Lane...See Above! The list for dinner is now in Lane's court!

My email for this event is...mplaferusa@bellsouth.net and I can be contacted via phone at 828-625-8182/828-674-9880.

I'll have maps, fueling stations and other hand-outs at dinner!

I have confirmed 20 dinner seats only at the Fiddlin' Pig. Also, I need the ACTUAL COUNT OF SOC VEHICLES that that will be driven to the BBQ dinner. Why...you guys do want a reserved parking spot as a group, don't you? Be warned that those that arriving late for dinner will be seated in the rear due to this being Friday night and the start of the Leaves Looking Season. Note that this is the Fiddlin' Pig's Policy because it will be crowded!

Some things just can not be left to the last minute, Guys. Your cooperation is needed if the evening is to go smoothly! SOC reserved up-front near the stage seating, Reserved Speedster parking, etc.

GET'ER DONE.

Lane, numbers, etc. are up to you!
Only way to get numbers is a roll call. So there's:
1. Me with Speedster
2. Aaron (and wife?) with Speedster
3. Tom Raymond and Hugh Tackett with Speedster (and/or Boxster)
4. Jack and Alice Crosby with Speedster
5. Russ and Sean Crosby with 911
6. Richard and Becky Pascale with Speedster
7. Marty and Sandy Grzynkowicz with Boxster
8. Leon and Margaret Chupp (in Toyota pickup)
9. Nolan and (forgive me, but I forgot) in 356 Cabrio
10. S Teele (Scott?) and ? and what sort of car?

Please forgive my forgetfulness and complete this list so that we'll have a good count for Aaron. The sooner, the better.

Folks, note that this event now covers three full days for most attendees, making it as big time-wise as Carlisle. Sounds like we gotta start getting more folks to join us to make this the Speedster season bookend to that event for all the folks on the east coast - and anyone from the left coast that wants to join us.
Due to circumstances beyond our control ( Becky has Some med issues) we regretfully have to bow out this year. Have a room reserved if someone needs it email to richard.pascaleATgapac.com and we can make arrangements. I can cancel with no penalty so if no one wants it no big deal.

Arron I look foreword to driving your suggested routes and will miss everyone's comraderie. We will do it again next year hopefully with no issues.

I went by the Lake Lure Inn...The Carolina Trophy Rally cars are now in Lake Lure. The rally fee is only $4950.00 for the 5 day rally. Boy, what a deal!!! I plan to pay them a visit and try to get a rally book, if possible.

The great thing about our upcoming run is...Speedster Owners and advocates driving other great vehicles get the same experience and drive the same roads for a few dollars LESS. Oh Yea! Note that we won't be spending any dollars on sterling silver trophies, snobbery or putting noses in the air and not allowing crossing yellow and double yellow lines to overtake a slower car! Oops, forgot to add cutting turn apexes.

I plan to drive up and talk to Nancy at the Pig. I think it best for all to order off the menu and not offer a "set" menu. That away everyone can enjoy BBQ their way and pay accordingly. We should probably pass two hats...one for the waitresses and another for the entertainment folks. Not sure of the protocol as of today.

Friday's nights(October 15)pickin' and agrinn' group is Bo's Bluegrass Band:
Bo's Bluegrass Band (Featuring "OLE ONE EYE") is here for two straight nights! Friday they are joined by Appalachian Mountaineer Cloggers and Saturday, The Stoney Creek Cloggers! Come and enjoy some great bluegrass & dancin! Bring your dancin shoes and come
hungry!!

Richard, similar has happened to me and always around Carlisle. Hang in there...Becky! Richard, contact me and I'll send the routes snail mail or jpg.

Clint ...are you coming up from from South Carolina?

KB in Kentucky... are you coming over from from Kentuc? I might have an empty seat on Saturday. My wife doesn't like the long drives. Poor Heater in Merlot. Sure, I'll have a co-pilot if no one applies. Katie the Irish Terrier is great company.

I count 10 cars! 20 people OK?

Of course, I'll be glad to make room for Porsche's new 356. Only 356 will be produced.

OUT for now.
I will be probably come over on Saturday to meet and greet everyone and ride along for awhile. I have a house over in Cedar Mountain NC about 30 miles from where ya'll will be. So let me know where and what time you are meeting / leaving on Saturday and I will see you there in my SAAB SUV, my SAS CAB starts production in about 3 weeks.

Just drove Scott Teele's new CAB, you guys are going to love this one.

WEATHER...

Looks good through the middle of next week. However, the weather cast for Wednesday is a low of 39F. I recommend a windproof jacket and a a warm sweater. Also dress in layers so that the driver and second seat can be comfortable. The temperature at 6000 feet can fool one. The drive will be varying from around 1200 to 6000+ feet at Mount Mitchell.

I plan on bringing a good thermos filled with coffee and a sack full of donuts, french roasted peanuts, biled goober ps. The stops for eating for lunch are few. The Parkway officials have limited vendors (food,fuel,eats,etc.. Lunch will be based on what time we get away Saturday morning. The first restaurant that handle our group is at Mt. Mitchell (A North Carolina State Park), the second is at Little Switzerland. NO reservations so pot luck!

Rest Stops... I have yet to plan because I've not had a second chance to truly map the route. There will be stops along the route for views, photos and the tiny weenie b club.

Merlot has been sidelined with a "bad" fuel pump. Carey has sent me a new Redline via priority mail last Monday..Ha. Ha, the package has NOT been delivered as of today. Our U.S. Mail service really sucks!! The post person refused to delivery yesterday due to posted due. What happened to delivery to your door as per the advantage of using the Priority Post and I would have paid instantly???? Oh, well enough of this.

More to come later...keep tuned!

You guys are going to have a blast. It's too bad I had to pull out this year because of work. The weather down here in NOLA has been great all week - low 70's and dry right now. Drove the IM to work a couple of times this week and she's running great. Feeling very envious of you guys headed out to the Smokies Run. Those mountain roads are my favorite in the US. Have fun and be safe!
Back again. The Fiddlin' Pig is a 20 minute drive from our place...the Hilton Hotel.
There are two ways to go, so I'll be at the Hilton with Maps and other handouts. Traffic in Asheville can be iffy for me. No traffic were I dwell (800 people). I thought that yo'll should keep the drive time to the Pig in your mind while doing other things.

Lane, did the Hilton sit aside a small room for us to gather?
Lane, AAron and all---I just found out that our new grand daughter's christening will be the same weekend as the Asheville event. There will be a boatload of family members at the christening -- it will be a command appearance for me so I reluctantly have to miss the Asheville event.

Mainly I was comimg to see what Marty wil be driving since he won't tell us here on the SOC site.!

Russ and Sean were going to Asheville to be with me and Alice so he
won't be coming now to show off his new 911. Alice and I will fly over to N.C. After D.C. to visit Russ and his family the following w/e.

I know that Asheville is going to be a wonderful time and I hate to miss it! I'll look forward to seeing everyone at Carlisle as well as next year's T.O.D. wherever it will be.
Well now, Let's recruit the West Coasters! Also, you SOC people up North and Mid-West...COME ON DOWN and get a taste of Southern Hospitality!

I'm planning to do a dry run very soon. Merlot is finally eating the fuel as she desires. Redline fuel pump helps!

I plan to meet with Nancy up close and personal, I don't want to cancel a table yet.

What about the rooms that were reserved...were they canceled without a cancellation fee?
The leaves have started to get ready for The Big Show. The Sourwood trees are already red,the Oaks are bronzing up, the Tulip Popular are yellowing and the Dogwoods are turning scarlet! The low at the Asheville Airport two nights ago was 32F. Frost warnings have been issued four the Western North Carolina Mountains for the past 4/5 days.
I'm just saying come prepared for weather changes. The altitude will vary from 1000 feet to 6600 feet. I have seen snow in August around and near Mount Mitchell. The only warm-up fire wood stove is at the Craggy Gardens Visitor Center!

I'll be adding another topic..."Run to the Top Of the Blue Ridge" listing the sights and stuff. More later.
