I wonder... as l look at my speedster theres something about the lines, there rear seat, that really isn't a seat at all and cant legally be used anyway, so lve been messing with the idea of how to fill it in..GULP and have been thinking of forms some alloy.... flaring it a little, and covering with a synthetic sued l have to look like a ... well something like the pic including some mild humps behind each seat... maybe even hinging it to form a lockable compartment... tastefully of course... who'd like to comment ? is it sacrilege.. or artistic flare ?? "that really isn't a seat at all and cant legally be used anyway" - curious why you say that? Assume because no seat belt? Not that anyone over 3' tall would want to sit back there - I can't see how it be illegal? There are fiberglass covers made - with and without headrest humps. Check out the Hoopty!

Dang, Wolfgang! Couldn't have linked to a more positive picture, huh? ;)
I'm digging the Bug-Out shot, though.
Bill, there are two things I would caution you about, if you're considering tonneau options that aren't removable; one, your shift coupler, the gadget that makes it possible to remove the gearbox without hauling the shifter out with it, is located right under that back 'seat.' You need access to that from time to time.
Second is storage. If you need to take a road trip, you'll need a place for a gym bag.

Terry it wont be copper bronze, ( but your car looks nice ) Wolfy I was setting it up like seats... kiddie seats...a lot of things we do aren't legal, my whole car isn't legal...

Troy, define an Extended Trip ? time or distance, I dont think I will drive it a long distance, but I may go to the pub for a long time... Cory good point about the inspection, was thinking of making it removable, and bob, your right its a great place for an ice chest... but dont want anyone stealing from it, you got to know, I'm in Australia and they steal the cork out of you bottle here
Great feedback thanks

Floods are going done and we can head of to New Zealand monday ... what a week

Maybe I should add.. brought another car 56 F100 or is that a truck and building my trike

Uncle Bill:

Another Speedstah Guy here in Beaufort did a rear tonneau cover of fiberglass. No seat headrests or anything like that, just a hard cover that looks like a soft one, but it's detachable. It has some nicely discrete hood hold-down pins at the four corners. push down 1/8", remove the retainers (they're small pins, that's all) and lift it right off (along with the fire extinguisher mount between the seats). He made a buck of thin maple and fir wood strips, covered that with window screen, then wax paper and then glassed over that. Once cured he removed the wood stuff and sprayed gel coat on the outer surface, bondo'd the difficult bits and painted it with black crinkle finish to look like convertable top material. Looks mint.

Bill,

I ran across this while researching a way to fill in the space behind my seats. They are available through Route 30 classics in Mosier, Oregon.

Their add states;
Speedster Headrest Cowl, for the 50's & 60's race look.

Do to the fact every Speedster & reproduction is slightly different, you will need to fabricate a simple L bracket for mounting. Nicely finished fiberglass, ready for paint. $299.00 541-478-2525
