We'll be at Courtyard by Marriott for 2018 reservations start on 1/1/2018

And I’ll be in Ireland for the wedding of a friend’s daughter...I hate it when events conflict.  Carlisle is always such a great time.

Intercontinental travel and weddings are two of the five acceptable "Carlisle Absence" excuses ... the others being childbirth, natural disasters and the apocalypse .  We will have to raise a glass for you in absentia!

(Carlisle usually conflicts with our granddaughters birthday, so I try to get my daughter to schedule the party the weekend before ... you know, priorities!  ;-)

As the newest purveyors of the Carlisle event, we would like to ask for your help.  Currently, the awards consist of distance awards for Speedster, Spyder and MG, a "Busted Knuckles" award - for the person with the best (worst) mechanical issues, and a "Good Samaritan" award - possibly for the person who rescued the most candidates for the Busted Knuckles award!    We would like to ask everyone if you have any ideas for other awards you might like to see.  So, if you have any thoughts, now is the time for your input.  Annnnnd... GO!

Just drive it.  I did it 10 times from Charleston, SC.

That's the stuff, right there.

I've been to the west coast twice. I drove to the Smokys this year.

Start with short drives. Take it to dinner, park it and don't worry about it. Once you start feeling comfortable, take it on a day trip (somewhere a few hours away). Once you can do that-- then you start planning on progressively longer trips.

I get it-- these cars are finicky and prone to leave you stranded. You can't mistreat them and expect good results, you've gotta' ease into a truce with them. They can leave you stranded or worse, but respond well to mechanical attention of the right sort. Finding what needs love and what can slide is what being married to these cars is all about. Ham fisted dudes need not apply.

Meade,

There will be caravans coming from the south, in fact I'm pretty sure there are folks driving and/or trailering specifically from the Atlanta area.  And there is always a caravan starting in Arkansas - lead by "Iron Pants" Jack Crosby - that you should be able to hook up with.   Watch these events threads for updates.

Also to everyone following this thread:

Carlisle is currently running a 20% discount on registration for entry to the fairgrounds.  Here is the link:

https://store.carlisleevents.c...ProductCode=2018-039

This sale is only on through December 31st so don't delay.  And remember  to indicate you are with the "Speedster Owners" club because the more registrations decides if we get a tent and the size of it - a great gathering place for our group on the showfield.

I'm looking around for something to put my Beck on to get it up there.  I grew up in Lancaster so it'll give me a chance to see some old friends. Anyone in the Atlanta area going up that wants to caravan???

Meade---as Bruce mentioned, there is a Southeast caravan that starts in Arkansas with overnight stops in Knoxville, Christiansburg, VA (Near Roanoke, VA) then on to Carlisle with a lunch stop in Hagerstown, MD.  By Hagerstown we usually have  6-8 cars , sometimes mo   You could easily take I-75 up to I-81 to get to either Knoxville or Christiansburg.

A caravan is a great way to do Speedster travel--usually a lot of spare parts , and tools within the members of the caravan.  This caravan is almost an event in itself with group dinners, camaraderie and some adult beverages along the way.  You''d be welcome to join us.

We bought a trailer just for the Speedster. It’s 14’x6.5’, with all boxed-tubing (no angle), ten-foot heavy-duty ramps, three hard-mounted jacks, a planked wooden deck, LED lights and a single axle. It cost less than $1,500 (to our door) from Sunshine Trailers, LLC, Baton Rouge, LA.

We couldn’t have bought one locally for less, even used. The guy’s on Facebook. Tell him we sent you.

I only have a couple. Maybe Lane or somebody else took some in Maggie Valley.

I forgot to add the spare, also on a white wheel, mounted where I wanted it. Screaming deal. All three tires are radials.

Considering we didn’t know the guy from Adam — and it came with a MCO and a VIN — we had to do it. Maryland stuck its hand into our pocket for $300, but there was no hassle.

We stamped the VIN into it, but only because ours came painted on. There was a hurricane headed for New Orleans at the time of our build — probably done to move it out quickly.

Excellent build quality. It’s painted though, not powdercoated, so we touch it up now and again if we see a spot or two of brown.

It weighs 1,000 pounds, and will hold 2,500, if I remember correctly. It all totalled up to the towing capacity rating of our AWD Equinox, maxed out, and our Speedster weighs less than 1,300 pounds.

(We added the checkered tape, just because I didn’t like the red and white DoT stuff.)
