This^^^  What Bruce says is the way to go. A trip to the hardware store for a couple of likely nuts to try is cheaper than trying a bunch of shift knobs. I couldn't find what thread I had, so I got out my thread chasers and tried a few until I got it figured out. Often when custom stuff is built there isn't the same consistency from year to year or even car to car as different venders get used, or a better mousetrap comes along.  Good luck!
