I've had phenomenal luck with uShip. I've used it a bunch of times to ship antiques purchased from as far away Florida. I even helped a friend use them to get an uncrated LT4 shipped from Tucson to Portland for under $200.  Basically the guy was had a job picking up an Alfa from Seattle and taking it to Sante Fe. The conversation went something like this:

Can someone get it into and out of my trailer on both ends?

Yes.

How about $200?

How about $175?

Done.

It's always been cheaper than I thought it would be and with shipper reviews on the site, I haven't had a clinker yet.

Wolfgang, there cheapest sub is $3k......

His car was sat on a full vw pan to roll. Not sure what that would cost $$$$$$$$$ im sure.

Im not independently wealthy if i was i would  just  buy a real one again (ive had 4 356 coupes) wish i had my last 60 back!

I have had someone on uship ask about it so we will see.......

I am Ray, thought of that $450 plane ticket and $2500 u haul truck plus gas and eats....nah.

Stan Galant true im not willing to over pay for a simple crate (you dont think that it would be built like a tank as suggested above for $800 do ya?) but i did ask the seller to go get $200 worth of material ( i pay for that) and box it (2 hours of his time but he wouldnt do it).

I have quite a few time gone out of my way and crated stuff almost this big out of my own pocket just to make the sale........

Bummer.  Is the seller being difficult about returning YOUR money?  After you are finished with this deal, maybe you could post who the manufacturer is so that others could know what they are getting into before sending this seller money.

Brock, I feel for you.  I can see myself getting into your situation.  Luckily the folks here steered me into asking questions I didn't know to ask.  I would help with the tag team, but I don't think my Fiat would do well with a fiberglass body on top.

Todd M, im not saying you wont get what you pay for from them but be ready to pay up for shipping or go get it yourself.

My shipping has gone from $1500 to $1800 and will probably end up at $22/2300 at the least to maybe close to $3k! (Where is the throw up emoji when you need it?)

Yes, exactly.  And it might be helpful for folks to know that they won't get much help from this manufacturer with shipping.  No blame, just transparency and knowledge.  I am big on Caveat Emptor, and bigger on listening to those who have been there before you.  Maybe you can help a few others make more informed decisions?

Iam Ray exactly, it was easy peazy till the first ltl fell through.

Wolfgang,  pipes would be the axles, cut 4 24" wheels from the plywood and use the 2x4s or the palett as a frame. It would make it a roller more than the furniture dollies under it now.

Brock, have you seen a picture of the body on the pallet ? If that pallet does not extend beyond the dimensions of the body front and back and side to side it would be a very troublesome job to just add wood to it to make it a crate solid enough to satisfy the carrier. I feel for you, Man but this can of worms is not as easy to solve as some might think.

Three entities come into play...the Vendor, the Carrier and You. The Carrier likely would not guarantee the shipment ( accept liability for damage ) unless the Vendor made up a very stout crate and he's sure as hell not doing that for $200 worth of pocket change. I've crated many items over the years and it's nowhere near a $200 job.

IMRay has a good idea mentioned above. Anyone on the list near the Vendor that may be able to assist ?

Excellent news, Brock.....everything worked out.  Who sold you the body ?

David:

You are about the third or fourth person (including myself) to ask, and Brock doesn't seem to want to reveal the seller.

There are four entities with coupe molds in the US:

1) Vintage (Greg Leach)

2) Special Edition/Beck (Carey Hines)

3) JPS (John Steele)

4) KitMan (Chris Kleber)

JPS and KitMan are both in San Diego. It's already been ascertained that this isn't JPS. KitMan makes it very clear on their website that they sell bodies only, not rollers, not turn-key cars.

I can be pretty slow, but I deduce by the process of elimination...

Stan Galant, yep and  if i understand correctly 2 (?) of those bodies are laied up in mexico...i know mine is.

It is supposed to be dropped off at the truck companies warehouse sometime.......

I have bought and sold may cars, trucks and motorcycles , shipped some around the world and have never been so stressed out over a sale or purchase.

Todd M thats all well and good but when the shipping is set up and you wont help load it because its not up to you and it cuts into your time and money is just not how i would do business.

As i have stated above i have gone out of my way and in my pocket to make a sale amd load /box and crate stuff but i guess that just not how big business is done anymore. When the sale is made you are done with it.
