I was planning on laying a thin bead of clear silicone for extra water protection. Jack Iron Butt Crosby mentioned to use some painters tape to protect the paint finish. How long after I lay the clear silicone do I wait to remove the tape?

Marty---while your doing silicone, if you haven't done so yet, put a dab on each rivet under the dash where the windshield is ---there are 6-8 of them. I had some water dripping in thee at one time.

It does seem that just 1/2 hour of time spent while building the car
would go a long way towards making them more water resisrtant. I'l just sayin'. Not all the cars go to southern CA!

See you in a few days!
Jack and Marty: so right, another 5 minutes with some silicone would do it. I just had my base trim off when the car was painted. I ran a bead of silicone on the paint toward the front edge, riveted it down right to the silicone. That should seal it! I also put some in the corners where the base gasket meets the rubber that is between the glass and frame. So hopefully I will never find out, at least not anytime soon.......
I did a major sealing job on my windshield, including removal of the base, sealing under it, and re-riveting, but I still have a small leak at one corner that has somehow avoided solution. I also still get a drip through one of the wiper shafts even though I've sealed everything that doesn't move. I guess leaks are a fact of life. They usually only come into play for Carlisle and (last year, at least) the Dragon trip.
