Okay, new to Speedsters but learning fast. I have yet to find a local owner so I can at least see a car first hand but have some questions.

Where on earth is the spare stored? Is there even a spare or is it simply hope for the best when driving .

Any owners in Maryland that would let me see there car up close? Don't need to drive it just want to se if I would fit.

Thanks,
Tony

Most of the Speedster Owners I have met have a spare tire due to too much beer consumption! Actually I have seen mostly small DONUT spares that fit under the hood depending on the manufacturer some have more room than others. You can search the threads for spare-tire and you will see what was said in the past.

Cheers

Many Speedster owners rely on their cell phone and a can of "flat fix" to get them through. My SAW Cabriolet has a compact spare, but I had a full sized 135 SR 15 mounted on a 4 1/2" VW rim in my VS Speedster. I wrote a brief article which is posted in the knowledge section of this site that documented the task on the VS.

When my sweet bride found out that the car didn't have a spare, she said she would refuse to ride with me until I put one in. She was afraid of getting stranded in the Great Smokey Mountains National Park with a flat. Cell phone reception in the park is spotty at best.

ps. I had a "spare tire" even before I discovered beer

Anthony:

I've written several times on here about my spare (on a CMC) and there are pictures in nichols1 - take a look there, to start, and, as Mike mentioned, do a search on this forum for "spare" and see what's already been written.

Bruce Stumpp is in Phoenix, Maryland, but I don't know if he's running a spare......a lot of these guys just take along a can of fix-a-flat and a credit card!! There are several other owners probably within an hour or two from you.

You can also search the registry for owners near you - they are sorted by zip code from closest to you to farthest away.

Would need to see if I can download that sleezy X-rated movies sound track. You know the one. Chiiga-ding-chicca-downg-chiccca-ding.....

Imagine what it would be? The car breaks down, John is stuck without a spare. He looks toward the camera. A smile comes across his face. That large cowboy hat shading his eyes just somewhat. Over there, at the bus stop, the dirty fat chick. The rest as we say is in your mind.

Chiiga-ding-chicca-downg-chiccca-ding.....

Would that be dirty as in "unwashed?" I think my first starring role would have to be something more like a Disney Flick, you know, a child's story line with a few hidden meanings and perhaps a couple of farts thrown in for good measure. I would leave the flatulence to the chick though. She would be the one fixing the flat and I'd be the one swilling the beer. Nothing like triple A working in concert with triple D ;-)
ps. maybe I should trade the dulcimer for a bazoom....or is that bassoon?
Several years ago (15) I purchased brake hubs with a Chevy bolt pattern so I had a wider choice of wheels (VW wheel designs were limited). Then purchased a collapsible spare also with a chevy bolt pattern. The spare fits under the hood with a stock tank, not sure it would fit with one of the larger gas tanks. I generally do not have a jack onboard so not sure the spare would help.
If you put in a larger gas tank forget about the spare. Just carry a CC, AAA card, Phone, with back up battery and cruise on. Drove 3400 miles w/o a spare in one week.

Before, with a regular tank I mounted a 15" 165/65 in a widely used style: (long) eye bolt & spin on tapped flat strip of steel.
Jim Bob, I've got a 14 gallon tank and a spare. Best of both worlds? Bruce and Mike, how about we develop a home brew beer formula and call it FAT CHIX BEER. That way we get the tastey suds and a good laugh when we're lounging and kicking tires at next year's Carlisle. If we get several of us doing the brewing, we might have enough to go around. I might have to revise the official Carlisle beverage poster however.
Troy, you're right of course. Even if we didn't live in a world which presently holds "P.C-ness" in high regard, at least in some quarters, we do need to be sensitive to other people's feelings. That is the bottom line. This being said, I withdraw my suggestion that members home brew the above mentioned and rudely named beer and that as punishment I'll drink lemonaide instead of beer for the duration of the next Carlisle event.
Naaaaah! I won't go that far, but I do regret my posting and offer my sincere appology to anyone, member or lurker, who may have been offended or hurt.
The amazing thing is that David's picture is of Robert before the sex change and Alan's picture is of Robert after the sex change. All things considered, things worked out quite well for Boobie, I mean Bobbie.

Robert has often bragged to me that he can drive without using his hands...now I know why.
