I suggest that you broaden your research to gain a wider perspective.  Include the Better Business Bureau for Specialty Auto Sports of Knoxville TN, and the Bankruptcy Court for Eastern District Tennessee for Specialty Auto Works, the previous company name Steve Lawing used for bankruptcy.

When you read the tales of woe in the above sites, you will realize already have sufficient drama in your life.  Caveat emptor!

As some have mentioned, I am the East Coast dealer for Vintage Motorcars of CA and would be more than happy to have a car built in the exact colors and options of your choice. I do order some cars for inventory as well and currently have a Black/Baseball glove and a Silver/Cardinal Red car available.

My business is Cloud 9 Classics and I can be reached at 770-359-8400 or roy@cloud9classics.com

I was invited to SAS to see his work. I'm not that far from him. Interesting.....

If you go see him ask A LOT of questions but please don't give him any money.

Specifically ask him about The Queue. https://www.tapatalk.com/group...queue-t102-s195.html

No one here has posted since 2017. There are something like 20+ people on the list who have been waiting and are still waiting for an SAS built Speedster. Ask if you'll be in line after them or will somehow miraculously be at the head of the list.

Out of the blue after waiting 6Plus years our deposit was sent back, it took numerous phone calls, emails and lots of frustration. Not sure what happened but feel that he was being cornered with legal action. Don’t see this man ever being honest or truthful steer clear he is running some sort of a Ponzi scheme.

Some good news at least.  Congratulations on getting your deposit back.

If by "these guys still build them" you mean a single 75+ year old former furniture salesman still subcontracts finishes to frames and bodies built elsewhere, then you're correct.

Caveat Emptor.

Goodness!   Sounds like they pee’d in your cheerios!   My JPS Is still fine after 20+ years.  As a Porsche collector I find it a quality build.  The paint is second to none, especially for the time.   It sounds like John may have pissed a few off but this car is excellent, and they still have a years waiting list.   😀

maybe I should be banned or silenced?  Like a good German.

As a matter of fact, JPS did pee in my Cheerios, @Cartod.

I purchased my JPS as a new (commissioned) build in 2002. The situation has been chronicled to death on this site (way back when) - but suffice it to say that it was the single most disappointing transaction of my life. I wouldn't wish the experience on my worst enemy, but yes - he hired the shop next door to lay on some very nice paint.

I can only assume you didn't have the pleasure of directly dealing with John on a new build, because very nearly every person here who has had the misfortune of dealing directly with JPS has a similar story. He lies like you and I breathe.

I'm really glad you're happy with your car. A used JPS is the only way I'd ever recommend buying one.

Nope, never dealt with them.   Sorry you had a bad experience, but no one gets on the internet other to complain.   My JPS build quality is second to none.  Jay Leno apparently agrees.  My advice is to move on.   Apparently John is not a good businessman, but his cars are pretty damn nice.

I guess I'm lost.

You're new here, and are welcome to your opinion - but you have no idea who I am, or why I come here. In 22 years (and over 126,000 posts), I've complained about exactly one thing - my JPS build

... not the Speedster I had before I commissioned that build, not the Intermeccanica Speedster I had built afterward. Only that car.

I moved on a long, long time ago - but you recommended ordering a car from JPS, an experience you've never had, but one which I did. As I said, I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.

Be well.
