Okay, I'm retired and have time to change my fried speedo cable on the Beck. Thanks to Mark Patty, I have a fairly good idea on how to proceed. Front brakes are discs. cip1.com offers cables, but I need to tell them which one to send. They have them for Ghias, VWs, buses, etc. Or....is there another company that knows which cable to send (I have not called Beck yet, since their website prices seem to be somewhat higher than prices offered by other companies selling similar aftermarket parts).

The cable enters approximately at the center of the left front drum assembly, about two or three inches to the rear of the stock shock absorber. I looked at the cable without taking off the wheel.

Thanks, guys. I owned an almost new 1961 VW in 1962 and bought one new in 1966 for $1,800. As I recall, the distance between the VW speedos and the front wheels was a little shorter than on the Beck, so I kind of discounted considering a stock VW cable. Looks like I guessed wrong. I always overanalyze everything, and it sometimes gives me trouble. Damned German genes. Anyway, thanks for the input.
