No delusions, Bob. It's gone and for a decent price too. I've never seen so many salmon coloured bills all in one pile. Now the Bride thinks her car goes into her side of the garage. Shyt....how will I buff the Roadster and work on the airplane if that happens, eh ? A Man's got stuff to do.........

David---It's kinda sad that your Speedster has sold---after all the work you did, the huge miles you covered then the Suby conversion with the radiator designed even better than some established builders.   What I'm leading up to is that we should establish an SOC museum and the first exhibit should have been your first Speedster.

Enjoy your new ride and sweet Frannie should get whatever garage arrangements she desires!

Thanks, Jack...but you are too generous with your compliments. I'm just a lucky guy that manages to figure things out sometimes.

Here's the final picture. Although they came with a truck and trailer, this new owner was so stoked he drove it home yesterday to the Niagara Region right through the Toronto traffic. Just in the nick of time too. Last night we got our first major snowstorm and five inches of the stuff. After taking the picture I turned around to find Frannie wiping tears from her eyes....we've got a lot of good memories from that car.

But like Mick Jagger said one time  " ya gotta move on".

@David Stroud IM Roadster D did you keep your hard top, or did it go with the car when you sold it?

It went with the car. Almost didn't though as I was near to making a deal with one guy second on the list and he didn't want the roof. This new owner called me up at 9:30 PM, made the deal over the phone and told me he had the right amount of cash sitting in his pocket. I woke up the next morning to a text saying to look outside...he was in my driveway. We went to the bank and stuffed the cash where it belongs with a very wide eyed Bank Manager.

Oddly, I've exchanged several emails with the other lad that didn't want the hardtop and I was the one that beat him to the punch buying the Roadster about a month earlier. While he was kicking tires and making a low offer to Henry for MY Roadster I was on the plane to Vancouver to pick it up. Deal already done with a bank draft in my hand. So what's next ? The same guy that missed the deal on the Roadster, now misses the deal on the Speedster and now makes me an offer on the Roadster. A persistent lowballer. Strange.

David, the IM used market is not an easy market.  Essentially with the limited supply it is hard to determine what the true price should be especially for a newbie.  It is a learning curve for sure....  Newer cars  or near new can sometimes be had for less than asking if the private seller gets to the end of his time frame and wants to get rid of it.

These days it seems the market is going a bit more to the seller than the buyer especially up here.

Just saying.

Just had a few squamous cell/basal cells removed from face and body.....physicians and kids asking me to give up the open air IM6. I love this car....one of my all time favorites and one of Henry's best creations. I truly considered that I would be buried in this amazing SPEEDSTER, the IM FACEBOOK moniker, but did not consider that it might hasten my DIRT KNAP!

I will take Thanksgiving to mull over my disposition but very likely might be sending her to a new home. My wife is not happy about all of the young barely-there bikini clad ladies that are attracted to the"cliche" Porsche and she is all for the new home idea.

It is nice to see that there is an appreciative niche market mindset for IM cars and this one is truly special. Wishing all in the forum a Happy Thanksgiving, a safe drive in their favorite car, and most of all GOOD HEALTH, our most valuable asset.

Sorry to hear about your skin issues... You could always get a hardtop made by IM for your car and get A/C installed.  It works  Happy Thanksgiving to you as well.

I live in Hawaii......I have always had a convertible and just as soon drive a YUGO or Saturn if a roof over my head. The speedster experience for me is open air, noise, power, AIR IN MY HAIR...I could not possibly BASTARDIZE my love for these cars with a roof/hardtop. Almost as bad as wearing a condom(LOL)...not in my lifetime.

Yeah, that sort of behavior usually means the guy wants a better deal more than he actually wants the item in question.

It's my position is that you do your homework and determine the fair market price for an item. If the item is worth the asking price and if you're serious about buying it, there is no sense in low balling someone.   You're just wasting time.

Ahhh... the condom is a necessity of the moment; not a big thing. Putting a hardtop on a Speedster- I really (and I do mean REALLY!) don't get certain peoples' obsessions with them.

I won't comment to the word   obsession    but I had several decent reasons for doing a hardtop. I really prefer to drive with the top down in good weather.

My Speedster convertible roof was low and we put plenty of miles on the car in various weather conditions. Knowing we might drive into some inclement weather, it was comforting to know for a certain trip we would enjoy the added headroom with the hardtop. We like to holiday in Wells, Maine in the Fall. With a hardtop on hand, if the weather looked a bit dicey we could still go and enjoy the trip. No hardtop and a good chance of rainy days on the trip we'd likely cancel. No need to now.

Carl Berry and I became pretty good friends ( RIP Carl ) in the short time that I knew him.  He muckled onto two hardtops in Cali. He had one shipped to him in CT and one for me shipped to upstate NY. Both came via Greyhound bus on the cheap in bubble wrap. Hilarious when you think about it. I felt obligated to Carl to get my top done and installed soon. He was pleased to see it done.

Thirdly, why be "normal" ? It's nice to have the option of the hardtop. Plenty of people saw it and I got good compliments about it. A bad thing ?  No obsession, but nice to do and have the option.

Hardtop.... Well I did actually add it to my build list after seeing these picts below but I nixed it as the time went on.   I felt my season was too short to allow the use of it even though I think the look is really cool.  I am a bit sorry that I did not do it but honestly I wanted to try it before I commited.   Enjoy the picts.

I still think a hardtop is a nice option to any convertible if the owner is inclined to use it when the mood or weather strikes them. Those pics above are nice.

The top on my newly acquired Roadster is much more substantial than the top on my Speedster.  For that reason, I'd have no ambition or desire to do a hardtop for the Roadster.  But for the Speedster I'm glad that I did and I can take it off the " list" . It worked out well for us.

It's going to be sunny tomorrow so I think I'll take the Bride out for lunch and go visit my Mother in the Seniors "resort". Mom likes to see the Roadster too so we'll get a few more miles in it.

I am the crazy man that came to buy the car from @David Stroud IM Roadster D.  I had a wonderful trip home, aside from entering what was the first winter storm of the year in the GTA...right about 330PM.   So toronto to Hamilton traffic, in rush hour, in a blizzard was interesting yet suprisingly easy.

Unfortunately for me, shortly after leaving I noted some light engine noise, which I thought was odd, but just chaulked it up to Subaru/Flat 4 sound, or some slight knock from fuel/air mixture, from the cold weather.  Upon getting closer to home, turned out to be a bit of rodknock from cyl 3.  Not a big deal.  Lucky for me, @David Stroud was a great help with my barrage of questions and talked me off the ledge from my new rodknock find.  I purchased it as a surprise gift for my mother, whom always spoke about how the 356 was her favourite car, and always wanted one.  For years she showed me photos online of several, usually equipped very similar to the beauty I purchased from David.  Needless to say, there were many tears, and joy that came from the surprise.  She took it for a good 1h run to one of my warehouses where I am storing the car for winter.  In the meantime, I have a 550 to finish and a fresh shortblock to prepare for my mothers new top down ride.
