Speedster Mirrors

I still like Aero mirrors mounted with the base pointing straight ahead, not pointed down.  I understand that they get pointed down to improve visibility.  Both of mine are convex and I can see stuff in them pretty well.

Here in the USA (and, I think, Europe, too), 356 mirrors were dealer installed - Not a factory option - So owners pretty much added whatever they liked, where-ever they liked.

You can, too.  You only need to be "Nesta" correct!

Mike's suggestion of a convex mirror in them for better visibility is good, too.

I had one customer buy two of my Wind Wing hinges, drilled them for a mirror to be screwed into them and presto!  No holes in the doors and they worked fine with the top and side curtains on !......................Bruce

Look mines... They're acceptable but they should be mounted close to windshield.

I like them.  They’re classy.

I have the Durant mirrors which were used on the C and early 911/912.  The are good quality stainless steel and say Made in Germany.   The after market Aero's seem to pit quickly.  Here they are mounted on "Penny" too.

Despite the best efforts of Greg and myself at proper placement, the passenger side mirror is largely useless. I am using a larger clip-on Broadway rear view mirror which works reasonably well.

I understand the aeromirror is certainly a small surface but my mirror on my right door is adjusted and has saved me from accidents when I am changing lanes all the time.   If you adjust it right it works, at least for me

For the Aeros (and maybe others) the mirror glass can be replaced with convex glass which give a widened rear view.  Still object in rear mirror are losing.  Even the cheap China stick on convex mirror help.  Mounted on the door, it seems difficult to get a good rear view --- on the fenders seems better but doesn't look as nice.  Builders seem determined to mount the Aero base at weird angles.

Here's a Durant mounted on fender - it looks far better on  the doors.

Some like them on the fenders but that mounting location would not be my choice.  I have posted how to adjust your mirrors. from Car and Driver before it takes a bit of getting use to but when you do your thank ful when you realize there is no blind spot then you convert all your DD.

My wife is demanding a new Mercedes as her's doesn't have blind spot monitoring and won't slam on the brakes for an armadillo in the road!  She wants the over head camera view and the auto park feature.  These are about $6k in options --- and complexity (expense) down the road. Bad enough when electric seats or a window button fails.  Germany is not noted for long lasting electronics --- but as bad as Lucas (The Prince of Darkness).

Ok - I'm somewhat embarrassed that I added and backup camera to my newish Miata.  Head won't turn that much any more.  Thinking of adding a front one too so I don't bend up the front air dam.

I guess I'm lucky that my wife loves her 2006 Scion xB and wants to keep it forever.

Seriously! It's used Corollas all the way down for us. And not the "S" Corolla, either!

My wife refuses to give up her Impreza with 210k on the clock. It costs almost nothing to own, so there's that.

I have absolutely nothing to add about Speedster mirrors. Spyder fender mirror is useless, head on a ratchet people...

@DannyP  well when the car gives up you will have an engine to rebuild to put in your Spyder, and it already comes with FI,     .... just kidding,

I must covered holes of the old mirrors so my options were little, only Durants can cover and I can reuse one of the holes.
