Hi guys....I am contemplating buying a replica as a DAILY DRIVER. I live 1/2 mile from work and will probably not exceed 8-10K miles a year on the car (hopefully)....

I live in San Diego (UTC) and work right around the corner. Looing for an inexpensive Speedster, a VS that's a few years old perhaps....really don't want to pay more than 10-12K. Smaller engine doesn't matter. Please reply if you have anything to add/suggestions. (or one to sell!)

My concerns (and I have done searches, but would like to know the opinions of 'SoCal'ers..):

Can you suggest where to go for:

--financing (good banks to deal with?? peoplefirst.com? (blank check for car loans))

--insurance (who's cheapest and honors claims...even at that mileage....)

--kill switch (will be parking it in a garage that is unsecured).

Thanks everyone, and i'm happy to be a part of this community (at least online).

I have owned a Porsche 914 and now have an autocrossing Subaru 2.5 RS.

Thanks a million.

I think George is referring to the short trips you will be making to work each day. On a short trip, your engine will not be at operating temperatures for very long (if it even reaches that), and thus more contaminants will form and remain in the oil. Hence, you need to do more frequent oil changes. Usually changes are at 3,000 miles along with a valve adjustment.

I doubt that $12k will buy you a late model VS. You can get a great CMC for that. Expect to pay more like $15K for a 2 year old VS with a nice 1776. If you have fair credit you can probably get it financed with your own bank and an appraisal. You sound like the perfect Speedster candidate. San Diego climate. Not long commutes. Have fun!
Mr. Gilbert. I must live about three miles from you in San Diego. I'm in south University City. If you want to talk speedsters, stop by some time. I have a two year old JPS flared with type 4 engine. Glad to demo it any time. It's the journey, not he destination! Call me at (858) 453-5271.
