I’ve owned a 57 Speedster for about 50 years. Until it became too rare to drive, it was my daily driver – hauled lumber, etc.  Folks would (besides chastising me for egregious lumber-like misconduct) sometimes inform me that my car had been race prepped by Lukes and Shorman and driven at Laguna Seca in ’57 & ’58 by a “helicopter pilot from FL” who sold it to the second owner, I’m the third owner who bought it from the second owner's widow.  Now I’m interested in verifying the racing story and local sources have aged out.   Anyone have any suggestions about discovering the original owner and history of this speedster?  Image from the early 70’s

While I can't offer any help besides what Alan and Greg (Wolfgang) suggested, I do want to say what a cool story! I think you'll find pretty well every one here will be interested, as we're all enthusiasts. You've probably already thought of this, but if you haven't- maybe ask each of the organizations if anyone knows of old pics of your car on the race track?

And just so you know, for 1/10 (or less!) of what your car is worth you could build an exact replica that YOU COULD DRIVE WHENEVER THE HELL YOU WANT!

It won't be exactly like your car, but it'll still be a lot of fun. With the right upgrades (independent rear suspension, wider wheels and tires, disc brakes and more power) it will be more comfortable and perform better as well. Al

PS- do we get to see more pics? We really do need more pics...

another PS- is it possible to search the state Department of Motor Vehicles for original owner info? Are you on every Porsche and race related forum you can think of?
