Saw the car in person, and got a good deal on it. Still came home without a car if that tells you anything... :( My second trip to Tennessee to look at a car. The first being SAS in Knoxville and you may well know how that went! Dunno if I will find a car or what I'm looking for... :(
I was pretty excited and I wanted to drive it home but I barely drove it down the road. It was kinda scary to drive. Slips out of 4th and brakes were really really really week and pulled to the left really bad. Almost didn't stop at stop sign. Disc up front and drums in the rear by the way. Some oil leaking from the throttle body and underneath the carb. Parking break would not lock in place and rest of car needs lots of tlc. Top locks were little to none with one being missing. I would be afraid to drive it with the top up. Driver Window was chipped and door fiberglass near window roll up cracked. One or more of the buttons were ripped out of the top and stayed on the car with top down. Front bumper was bent down on right side. Gauges were all really off or not working. Seats don't slide and my legs were a little to long for good shifting. It has a GM steering column that is extended out about 4-5 inches too far but it does have tilt although it needs to be all the way up so it doesn't dig into your body. Window cranks were close to not working at all. I was worried about breaking them. Door interior was falling off on drivers side where screws were stripped. Cloth interior on seats and doors very faded and sun bleached. Doors didn't close all the way at the bottom and had gaps. Engine cover was gaped as well but I'm sure can be adjusted. Various chips in the fiberglass and paint of car especially where body parts come together.

I liked the car but it needed quite a bit of work to be where I wanted it to be. I don't have the time to put into one for that. The guy was super nice but I would have rather known the majority of these issues prior to driving hundreds of miles to find out myself! He said the brakes, oil and the trans were new issues to him but also said he had not driven it in months? Who really knows? It could have used a cleaning as well. You live and learn and like I said he was super nice and wanted to work with me I believe but It's just all too much for me when It was presented as I would be able to drive the car home. He should have known about some of these issues for sure before I drove it ect. Steve as SAS was also really nice as well but there are many people on here that are not fans. WHO KNOWS? I'm not sure that I would trust him at this point with a 17k down payment and then the wait for my car although I have seen his cars and they look great. The lawsuits exist for a reason one could deduct!

I don't think 10k has really one thing to do with it one way or the other. I have looked at cars that were in the 20k range with some of the same issues. I would never try to sell a car and it not be as clean as I could get it personally and vacuumed out ect. I believe It puts the exclamation point in the for sale! for me. Just because your car is 10k doesn't mean you can just not tell people about issues and that one must assume that with 10k comes lots of issues. Also 10k doesn't mean you have a piece of junk either and that maybe you just want to sell. These cars many pushing 20+ years as a replica not even an original should never cost what they do but as you can see some really bring the money and others do not for whatever reason. TAlso, the market is really soft right now and not a good time to sell your car or your house for that matter. One might expect to lose money or break even on such items right now in most places! I have been researching these cars for some time and it seems that the kits have all taken a huge jump in price over the last few years. Turn Keys have gone up almost 10k or more in some instances.

I want a speedster really really bad but I guess I will have to get a new one built or find someone close to me who has kept their car up as I would if I owned it.

This site is great and all it has to offer people just getting into it like myself and for people who have been around for years! Thanks for everyone's willingness to help and for the info!
KB, you're still invited to join us in Asheville. That way you'd get a chance to check out several cars in good shape - at least two Becks, two VSs, an SAS, and who knows what else.

If you can't make that, and aren't in a hurry, come to Carlisle, PA in May and meet up with a whole lot of us. Several of the manufacturers with be there, so you could talk to them as well. Don't rush into it and do your homework. It pays off.
