Jimbo, Thank you, a great video and tribute. I really miss SOC and the good people I've met during the 4 times I attended Carlisle. So many things have changed since I last attended and was more active in the group. I still have my Cabriolet and drive the hills of East Tennessee but family issues have darkened my outlook on things I had enjoyed. Our daughter passed away expectantly and things we once thought were important now seem pointless. Good friends, love and understanding are bringing things in focus now. Looking forward to a fall meeting with some fellow SOCers and thinking about Carlisle 2019 although I won't be in the running for my 4th Long Distant Drive award. A huuuuuuge thanks to Bruce, Norma and Gordon for hosting events and a big wave to my friends in SOC, you know who you are.

NOLAN!

Had a chat with John Hallstrand at Carlisle about you and how you and your wife were doing, but, as a gentleman he didn’t mention the bad parts.  So very sorry to hear that and made me think about us losing some family members a few years back and how that knocked the stuffing out of me, so I totally understand.  Take the time you need to slowly return to a “new normal” and then engage with some of us when you’re ready.  Till then, we’ll still be here, offering conflicting opinions on what’s wrong with all sorts of things on other people’s and fifteen different ways on how to fix them.

Missed you at Carlisle, but it was a wet, wet time, made brighter by good friends (and beer - Lots of beer).

All the best, there in the Tennessee hills.  Gordon

A big Thank You from Norma and I to everyone who had something to do with this tribute - especially Jim Ignacio, Max Zimmer, Cory and Jeni Drake.  Jim created a super video with tributes from the participants (thanks everyone!) and photos that bring back many memories. Max spoke and presented us with an amazing photo album (that also includes tributes from participants) which I can only assume took him many hours to compile.  Cory and Jeni made a really cool plaque that will hang in a special place in the garage/man cave.

As has been said before, there have been many people along the way who have pitched in in so many ways – everyone who purchased or created items donated for the raffle that helped to cover the costs of the weekend,  people who provided event artwork and t-shirts over the years (Rich Drewek was our go-to guy the past few years), Alan Merklin who insured we had lodging and Bill Drayer who coordinated the Thursday cruise and dinner at the CaddyShack.

And special thanks to Gordon Nichols and Cory and Jeni Drake for giving us four years and one year respectively of a break from coordinating the weekend.  They did a dynamite job of keeping things rolling and in many cases bumping the event to a higher level.  And thanks to all the participants who made the weekend something worth coordinating and attending.

This year was a prime example of what Carlisle is.  There was an early-on forecast threat of rain and still MANY people attended  - some driving many miles - even though they did not bring their Speedster or Spyder.  It’s been said many times this is a reunion that continues to grow with new family coming every year.

If anyone wants to know what it felt like 15 years ago to experience the results of our efforts to get this show started, read the chapter titled “Ghost Riders” in Max Zimmer’s book Actual Miles.  The Carlisle gathering never ceases to attract.

Will the Speedsters Meet Spyders gathering happen again in 2019?  No one has stepped up to take over the reins but I am confident someone will - this event will happen in 2019 - mark the dates on your calendar!   May 16-19.  Drive ’em, trailer ’em, tow ’em, but get ’em there somehow!

I have attended 14 of the 15 Carlisle gatherings and I am certain there will be a 16th.  Bruce, Norma, Gordon, Alan, Bill, Jeni, Cory, etc., etc., etc., have created something that may change, but isn’t about to die.  Too many lasting friendships have been created.  I’m not sure what the form, date, or venue will be (I’m betting on superficial changes), but there will be something next spring that is “Carlisle.”
