Me and my Speedy attended and participated in our first car show this weekend! It was hosted by two local businesses that share a parking lot (DCF Guns and 105 West Brewing Co). And OK - it was small and local (about 40 cars) - but with a festival like atmosphere including live music, lots of beer, a bouncy house for the kids, food trucks, and a totally down to earth relaxed and friendly vibe, it was an absolute blast!! The event was very well attended and drew a very eclectic crowd.

My little white Speedster drew quite a bit of attention, and was even awarded First Place in the Classic/Import category!!!

How cool is that!!! The comment that we heard all day long, over and over, was that “I can’t help but smile when I look at your car!!”. It’s sort of a recurring theme with these cars, isn’t it?  Spreading that Speedster Love, baby!!

A special shout-out to MUSBJIM for helping me to craft a placard readily identifying the car as a ‘reproduction’ ‘57 356 Speedster and short circuiting any potential P-badge purist ‘experts’ or naysayers. His advice was as good as gold and facilitated nothing but positive feedback, great conversation, genuine curiosity, and unbridled enthusiasm for the car all day long! Thank you, Jim!

Hope that everyone had a great Fourth of July weekend!

YES! I’ll try to round up a few more pics! Honestly, though, I made the ultimate rookie move of meeting and conversing and carousing with the other owners and enthusiasts (and yes, there were a few beers involved!) - so much so that I really didn’t get very many pictures. My wife to the rescue, as always, snapped a few, and when I get home after being out of town this week for work I’ll get a few posted!

I love bringing these fiberglass oddities to regular little car shows because in that light, these cars are exotic. You get there, there's 40 cars, 6 are first-gen Mustangs and six more are 1969 or '70 Chevelles. Then there's Camaros, Corvettes, a smattering of 'Cudas and like that one guy with an AMX. He's cool. Definitely talk to him.

Then there's some '50s sleds and maybe a Bug guy somewhere or once in a while an MGB but you roll in with a pristine looking '57 Porsche Speedster (or, in my case, a raggedy '52 MG TD) and the crowd absolutely goes wild.

They've never seen one of those before!

Novelty! Variety! It's what's for dinner.
