I finally cut a access hole behind my lic plate for better cooling / timing light.
Hadta use a mirror B4 !!
You can see the 2x2 crossmember partially blocks the cooling air intake. Still cooling never beena prob even in 90deg temps. Air goes both over and under the 2x2

Then added a nice 1/4" perf removable metal grill
License plate spaced about an inch off the body.

Also see photo 0268 for the view toward the altnater.

A relaxing afternoons work.

Dave - I have a '75 914 that I striped of the flat cooling pieces (and gave them away) -thinking I'd do the Joe Cali conversion. Then my Mig welder died. I think I'll try to find someone with spare flat cooling pieces and and do a stock rebuild. Heck, OEM 80 hp isn't bad. Did you seal below so exhaust heat wouldn't get sucked in? Any other pictures of engine install available? Did you use a mount in rear of engine?
Wolf, note this was a BUS engine. The cooling tin is slightly different.
I used most of the stock cooling tin and trimmed it where necessary on the BODY side.
Yes made sure the area under the intake was well sealed from exhaust heat.

Sorry no more pics. I installed the engine to the chassis before lowering the body on .
Ideally the rear crossmember should curved down in front of the fan, to get it out of the airflow

The rear engine mount attaches to the 2x2 frame.

If I ever feel i want more power, I'll add a turbo and ditch the bus heat xchngrs .
Knock off 50 lb ass deadweight right there
Right now i can attack most any twisty hill in 3rd
