Marty, here's a counterpoint to Stan's point (and I agree, if you want red, do an Alfa red).

But here's the thing. Do a Google photo search for 'Alfa Romeo' and what do you see - a sea of red. Almost as much as Ferrari, it seems a 'real' Alfa has to be red.

But, after you've spent all that money for scraping and patching and painting and sanding and buffing, what you've got is just another red Alfa. Which may be very nice, but it probably will never 'pop' the way another color could.

A friend had a 1750 Spyder in 1968, in what was then a new color for Alfa - silver. That car really popped because the color was so unexpected (at the time).

I really like Alfa's green and their dark blue - either looks great against a tan interior. And there's that mustard yellow, too (which I think they called 'Ochre').

At any rate, bambino, give it some thought before you go all traditional.

I’m not a red fan. At all.

That said, I’d cover that dude in about 2 gallons of Alfa blood red, and put a giant goofy looking cloverleaf right there on the fender, as God intended for Alfas. I’d probably do a black interior as well, because I’m boring that way.

It’s your car, however, so go ahead and paint it to look like an Opel Manta if you want

Marty, I would caution the jury to ignore any remarks that reference the Opel Manta as they are purposely inflammatory, prejudicial, and irrelevant to the matter before the court.

The question is whether to embrace the safe and accepted

or to seize an opportunity to poke convention in the eye:

Most of us would choose the former, but you should at least consider the opportunity to do the latter. And as long as you're in for a penny, you can tell all your friends that it's not a freakin' cloverleaf, it's a quadrifoglio.

Yes Mitch, I would want to color outside the lines, but I need to work on Sandy

That Ocra Giallo is a very cool color.

No. Looks like a school bus or a taxi to me.

However, of all people I reside firmly in the camp of NOT the same old same old.

I'd go with a color that is acceptable to the car from the era but different than everyone else's(like my white as opposed to silver on the 550).

And we all know Sandy has to like it too.

I like that dark silver/black/blue. I can't quite identify what color it is, but I like it.

As has been said, a red Alfa is really cool, but then (as has also been said) so many Alfa's are red. Same with any stock color- very traditional (and expected). If you are looking to color outside the lines, I agree with Danny on the dark colored car above; a dark blue or dark metallic grey would look different, grab everyone's attention and be totally badass!

Anways, the Alfa gurus will help me determine if the car was an original Alfa red car.  They have Vin# books and a pipeline to the museum folks that keep records.  I think it is.  Back to Plastic tubs.  I was supposed to pick up my IM from storage on Thursday,  but I got a call saying don't come in.   Apparently there was break fluid under the car.  They told me to give them a few days.   They are checking if it is lines or the master cylinder.

Tough, um, break, Marty. Better found now than on a long downhill run.

If it please the court, I move that exhibit A not be allowed as it's either a crummy photo of a cool paint job or a cool photo of a crummy paint job.

That color is not really the point, though, as Marty's car will probably be cool in any color, while no color could hope to save an Opel Manta from a life sentence of terminally boring.

I think we can all agree that there ARE other colors out there, somewhere on an infinite spectrum, that could make for a cool looking Alfa that are not the red that most every other Tom, Dick, and Mario has chosen.

I'd only suggest that Marty consider the possibilities.

The defense requests a recess and a beer.
